What would be the best wedding pressie for you???

Options
Hi to all pre and post wedding peeps,

When me and t'other half got wed we had a small do and put something in the invite about presence not presents but were lucky enough to receive an amazing freestanding handmade metal curved clock - which I love to bits and would prob have seen and wanted but never justified buying.

Anyway, my brother is getting married in March and I want him to have a similar unexpected surprise (they're asking for cash) but guess what I cannot think of anything!!

I've considered a robotic hoover(the small things that move around the floor all day) but boooring!!

I'l spend a fair bit I think, well to me thats upto £200 if it was perfect!

Please tell me what you'd love and I hope to draw inspiration :A

not everyone's cup of tea though.
The most origional gift we've given is a stained glass window! Made by my partner as a wedding present for our friends and lovingly transported to Ireland in our little Yaris!!!

Go for the money and a token "useful" or "beautiful" item for the home, photo frame is a good one.

They may have something they want to put the money towards, eg me & OH are saving all gifted money towards a plasma tv. Its something we can never afford ourselves and its nice to be able to tell people thier money went towards something worthwhile ( honeymoon cash is a good one too) than frittered on new chopping boards or hoovers "just for the sake of"

    Thats my 2p :D
 Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
    This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast
  • I would want nothing that money could buy - if I could have anything I would have my dad and nan with me but that would never happen as they have both passed away

    Thanks, all.

I am tempted to give them the money at their request BUT since our pressie was such a fantastic suprise and continued joy I really want to go down that route. I'm gonna take a look at that link joolesw.

The money they're requesting will prob go towards their honeymoon.

    ANy more??

Sorry meant to say the balloon idea won't work as cars have already been booked and wedding, reception and accomadation are all in same place.

  • I'm with the others, I would rather have the money than something that although may be a lovely surprise doesn't pay for the thing I really wanted. (I know that sounds ungrateful and greedy but thats just what I would prefer, I don't like the thought of asking for money, but if I did I would rather that especially as tastes in my family differ massively)

Thanks Hayley, they are going on hols anyway and I'm now veering toward part money part gift - best of both worlds.

Can't help but think how nice it was to have a gift when we didnt expect one too.

Where are they going? Perhaps you could get them a gift voucher for £200 for a really special shop/dept store/boutique where they can go when on holiday and choose a special item for themselves? Ie, if they were going to New York, get them vouchers etc for Bloomingdales, Saks Fifth Avenue, Macys etc etc - and maybe you could call and ask that when they go, the store arranges a special "champagne lunch" or something??

I would personally rather have the money - we are asking for money so that we might be able to afford a honeymoon. If people all ignore our request then we will have no honeymoon......i really just want people there at my wedding but if they are going to spend money, i would rather i could dictate what it was spent on!! Which sounds awful, but thats what people with conventional "gift lists" do really, isnt it?

Baldrick, does it have to be this way? Our valued friendship ending with me cutting you up into strips and telling the prince that you walked over a very sharp cattle grid in an extremely heavy hat?
