3 network

I'm on three network. Contract is for 18 months and finishes in a few months time. Ever since I got the E71 from them for free the signal has been poor. When I original tried to get them to sort it out they said they'd repair the phone, a week after I'd got it. Instead of sending me a replacement. I never bothered to chase it although I should of.

Just spoke to them now about getting phone unlocked. They said there is a charge of £15. I'm not arguing that. Told them also that because 3 never bothered to ever do a firmware upgrade for the phone, I used some software that unlocked the firmware so you could update it with Nokia's official firmware. It doesn't unlock the phone from the network, just for upgrading the firmware.

She didn't understand and said if I unlock the phone I'll still see the 3 logo, even though I just explained to her 3's firmware is no longer on the phone.

Anyway. When I told her I was going to be moving to a different network because of the poor signal when my contract ends. She told me "You have to give us 30 days notice at that time". I asked why, as my contract will have ended so I don't have to give them any notice bar calling them up and telling them. She said because it's an open ended contract and will carry on running if I don't.

I'm sure that's rubbish. I signed up for an 18 month contract so how is it open ended? Why do I have to give them 30 days notice?

Am I correct in thinking she's talking rubbish and 3 are trying a con job?

You signed up for an 18 month minimum period contract. It is you that is talking rubbish, not her I'm afraid.

Do you seriously expect phones to just stop working after 12/18/24 months because that is what the contract period was for?

Also, there was new Three firmware for the E71 a couple of months back.

I have no idea what the first paragraph of your post has to do with anything.

Things are often taken as 'unfriendly' when the person asking advice is wrong and accusing other people of talking rubbish.

The majority of the post had nothing to do with the question, it looks like you were just bashing Three for the hell of it anyway.

Even though you may not intend to renew your contract, you still have to give them a courtesy call after 11/17/23 months and say 'I'm giving you 30 days notice. I do not intend to renew. Please cancel the contract and send me a final bill'. Otherwise the contract will just continue as a 30 day rolling contract.
