Hi - I found £10, well only half, behind the sofa and not quite sure how it got there and when. Though I guess this happened when some friends were staying over and slept on the sofa.
How or can I convert this / get it exchanged at the bank?

Hi from what I can remember as long as it has the full serial code on it a bank with swop it for you but if it doesnt have the code it is useless. I have a ripped in half 10 a few years ago and a shop took it due to the serial code being on it.
Hope this information is still correct

From what I know, you can only get it exchanged if you have both of the serial numbers, so unless it's been torn in a very careful way, you'll be out of luck.0 -
if its a bit bigger than half you may be lucky, havent worked in a bank for a few years. but you can take it in and see.THANKS to everyone who posts competitions. you are all :A.0

Well it's only half and it does have the serial code (only one). Will take it to the bank tomorrow and see what they say.
Shall I cook up some story (a friend suggested I should say it got damaged while trying to buy a railway ticket from a self vending machine) or just say I have this note and would like it exchanged?0 -
usually you need both halves as people have tried exchanging both halves seperatly beforeThere is a Money Saving Expert quidclan, next time your on quidco have a look for it0

The bank note is sent off somewhere ( probably Bank of England ) and as you have the complete serial number they should, in time, pay out - unless someone has submitted the other missing half for payment already. In which case the railway ticket/vending machine story would be a little embarassing.Well it's only half and it does have the serial code (only one). Hi,
I had a half a £5 note a few years ago, so took it to the post office. They gave me a 'Mutilated Notes' claim form which I had to send off with the note, and I got a £5 cheque from them around 2 weeks later!
I've found the claim form online here:
http://www.bankofengland.co.uk/banknotes/damaged_banknotes.htm
They assess each individual claim. It's not as simply ripping a note in half and sending them in to double your money!Profit=sanity
