when i went to collect my new glasses the other day the lady in tesco opticians told me to clean them with meths. she said to put some in a little spray bottle and just spray it on and polish them with a cloth.

just thought people might like to know. did a search but can't find it anywhere, apologies if it's already been posted.

  • Thanks for sharing, does it not affect the frames at all?

You'd have to be careful to not wear them for a while, until the smell has gone! LOL

she didn't seem to say anything about the frames...

yeah thankfully the smell goes pretty quick as it evaporates in air!! i bought a bottle of meths today for £1.50 in wilko and a little spray bottle for 99p in superdrug. still cheaper than a tiny bottle of glasses cleaner!

They did this in my opticians too - I love that smell! Mine told me not to use it all the time, but every now and again to give them an extra special clean. I just wash mine with a little liquid soap in between.

Equally important is not to clean your glasses using paper tissues (especially bogroll) because the paper can contain tiny woodchips or even grit which may scratch the lenses.

If you only ever carry kleenex etc, then clean your glasses on your shirttail! :)

    Hi rach,

We have a thread with suggestions on how to clean glasses so I've added your tip in there.

I've found that using vinegar and water seems to get rid of grease and muck from my glasses.
Found this completely by accident after a bottle of vinegar spilled onto my glasses when they were on a table.:rotfl:
