Cleaning my glasses

How do I remove the grease/dirt from my glasses?? Even after polishing with a cleaning cloth they still have smears. I would like to do it the MSE way without having to resort to expensive sprays etc!!!

Thanks

  • I use two microfibre cloths - one wet with a little bit of stardrops in the water, and the other dry to polish. I use this for windows, mirrors, glass topped table, TV and if I am doing my glasses I just put a little tiny bit of stardrops in the bowl of very hot water, swish the glasses in that and then polish them with a clean dry microfibre cloth.

My dad just washed his under warm water with a tiny squirt of washing up liquid! I do too and it works, but I haven't found a good way of drying them yet and keep forgetting to ask him.

I stick mine in a small bowl of soapy water to make sure the whole of my glasses get cleaned not just the lenses, then drain them on kitchen paper, and finish them off with a micro cloth.

I do this too, and just sit them on the draining board for 5 mins.
If you use hot water, it dries off really quickly.

    Alternatively, get yer microfibre out!:p

Go to my Dad's pub. Customers line their glasses along the bar and my Dad puts them through the glass washing machine. They come out sparkling.

I'm not so sure health and safety would approve, but it keeps the customers happy!!

If I'm in a hurry, a squirt of Windolene and a kitchen towel works well!

When I need to clean them properly, I usually wash them when washing my hands, rubbing gently the lenses with a bit of soapy water between my fingers. Then they can stand on a cloth for a few minutes to drain of excess water, then a quick rub with microfibre makes then clear and bright.
