Another thought which sometimes makes me hard to change: If I didn't have low self esteem, anxiety and depression problems would I not have all the qualities my best friends see in me - kind, considerate, selfless and generous ?

I think part of me is scared that I'd lose those if I conquered my problems...

I'd never thought about that Blinky - but I suppose I spend so long hating myself, I forget to look at the positives.
If you are a nice, considerate person, that would stay, no matter what else you change.
I believe things like that come from the heart - you won't loose that.
If anything, loving yourself would make it easier for you to love others

    Hello everyone:)

I had a great weekend away but I feel so flat now. Everything is so boring and I can't be bothered to do anything.

Evening all, sorry I haven't been round for a bit. Looks like even more 'newbies' have joined us. Well you are all welcome (although it is probably a sad sign as to how much depression and mental illness there is around).

OH is at work tonight, not home until about 10.30. I hate the nights he works like this, I just sit here and can't relax and get myself worked up about silly things instead!

Oakdale Minx - Nice to meet you. Please don't feel that you have 'given up' by asking for help. It is the best thing you could have done. My OH made me feel horrid and guilty for taking my tablets when I first got them, but they have changed me so much, I am a much nicer person to know (and live with) on my tablets than off them.

Did you doctor suggest any counselling or alternative therapies? It always shocks me the number of doctors that put people on medication, but don't offer any other help. I have had two lots of counselling (8 sessions each) that really helped me sort out a lot of my problems and have made me feel much happier.

If you want to chat feel free to, we are all friendly and supportive on this thread.

    Hi Flis

I can understand why more people are on here. It is winter and SAD is kicking in.

I don't understand why partners/husbands object to people taking pills. They are not happy with their partners as they are and pills are meant to be helpful. !!!!!! do they want?, you can't win!

I am not anti-men or want to seem sexist, but so many men I meet are so difficult to get along with, I do wonder how much they contribute to the low feeling? They certainly don't seem to help. Strangely enough I got on really well with men when I was in my teens but since graduating in my early 20s, I have felt them to be an obstacle and worse than any difficult child.

I had counselling without pills and whilst all counselling is useful, it didn't crack my basic problem, I still felt low. I took pills then had the energy to pursue it which did really help me. I felt a real breakthorough. My problem was with my hormones and so called caring friends and family not supporting me when I needed it. I felt really alone and I was not very nice to them as I felt abandoned and attacked.

Once the physical element of any low feeling is sorted, you are clear to help yourself, and be less needy of others.

That sounds a good film. I think there is an Irish film, not sure of its name which is about women who get pregnant and the workhouses they exist in. That is depressing and makes my blood boil.

Magdalene Sisters is the film - scary:eek:

Hi CCStar, welcome back hun. Glad you had a good weekend. Think I recall you saying OH was apprehensive re meeting family - did that go ok for him? Hope the neighbours have been behaving themselves :) Sxx
The meeting went well. She is very nice. So far it has been quiet on our return.

I feel so much better since last time I met up with them and felt very confident. I feel so exhausted since our return. It was a long drive there and back and our son drove all the way.
