    hmmm....
I could plug in my Ipod and, if it starts to auto-sync right away, i could quickly unplug??...would this damage it???

    thanks for your suggestions, everyone.

Yes, but you CAN'T change this option until the iPod is connected, and the default behaviour is Auto-Sync, so the first thing iTunes will do is Auto-Sync to the new PC's library..... UNLESS

iTunes notices that the iPod has already been sync'd to another library, and it SHOULD prompt the user to ask if they want to sync it to the current library........ but I wouldn't rely on that, without knowing which version of iTunes is in use - because I seem to recall that this was added in later versions......

Just checked what i can do on itunes, if my ipod isn't connected..and YES!! there is an option to prevent auto-sync.

    thanks again, everyone.

Do you still have the hard drive(s) from the old PC?

    I wouldn't.

How did this important music get onto your iPod in the first place? You loaded it from iTunes, unless you have one of those microphone sleds that allow you to record directly to it.....?

I also use sharepod , install sharepod , run sharepod, connect ipod , back up ipod to pc this will then save content of ipod into MY MUSIC on your pc . Then either only use sharepod or start itunes drag and drop everything you want from my music into itunes and sync ipod with itunes.

No!! sold my old laptop on ebay a while ago. That's when I stupidly decided to move all my itunes content onto my Ipod.
    Won't do that again!

This software has worked a treat...all my ipod stuff is now relatively safe on my Itunes.
Thanks so much for your help, everyone! I'm ecstatic!!
