Bloody Easyjet!

Booked our dream holiday back in July, we are meant to be travelling from East Midlands to Barcelona airport on the 23rd of this month. East Midlands have announced, as of today that they are no longer flying from East Midlands.

The only other flight I can find that won't cost me more than the actual holiday itself is from Ryanair, but it drops us off at another airport about two hours from the hotel and it flies 6 hours later than we originally intended, effectively losing us a whole day.

I've just spent an hour trying to find another flight and I'm actually in tears. This was supposed to be our dream holiday and I'm so tempted just to cancel the whole thing, despite us having our Euros all ready, time off booked, etc.

Has anyone else experienced this? Does anyone have any advice or ideas? I've tried a lot of the price comparison sites but non of them are flying from EMA.

Thanks!

Easyjet now fly from Doncaster to BCN (not great times though). Just phone them and get them to transfer you to that flight. They will do this FOC
The common law of business balance prohibits paying a little and getting a lot. If you deal with the lowest bidder, it is well to add something for the risk you run, and if you do that you will have enough to pay for something better.

Thanks, but I looked into that and they don't start those flights until April.

This was officially announced last September with widespread media coverage including http://www.dailymail.co.uk/travel/article-1210945/easyJet-close-East-Midlands-base-cut-Luton-flights-20-cent.html and this announcement on easyjet.com

    East Midlands Airport

Earlier today we announced our intention to stop all flying from East Midlands Airport from 6 January 2010.
This decision is a result of Commercial considerations and plans to redeploy our aircraft across our network. We will continue to operate as normal up until 5 January 2010.

Customers with bookings for the period 6 January 2010 onwards will be contacted in the next few days with three options

    A full refund
A transfer at no additional cost to an alternative easyJet flight from another airport
A transfer at no additional cost to an alternative flight with bmibaby from East Midlands Airport .

I know about that. Every time I've tried to call them, they've asked me to call back next week until they called me this morning and told me they've cancelled it. Can fly from Bristol but have to pay my own transfers despite what they've said.

Just spent ten minutes on the phone to their Indian call centre trying to get a transfer but they assured me it was "my choice" despite not having made one so will end up paying the extra costs and petrol myself.

Wishing I hadn't bothered! This was meant to be a present for the hubby as we both had a crap 2009.

    Thanks!

Did they not e-mail you in September with the address you provided at the time of booking

I think when they say they will transfer you free of charge they mean transfer your booking with no extra for you to pay.
I dont think they mean they pay for your actual costs to get to the new airport.

Ryanair fly to both Girona and Reus, and they are both about an hour from Barcelona.

I hope you can sort something out and still go away, don't let all this stress and upset be for nothing. Go on your holiday and have a great time, just don't book easyjet next time!!

My sympathies Croc_Mad. It is distressing when an airline messes you about. British Airways cancelled flights I had booked five months previously. It cost me greatly to switch to another airline. As long as an airline gives you a couple of weeks notice and refunds your payment they face no penalty; they can do this without cost to themselves. Yet, the cost for the customer, booking elsewhere at short notice, can be considerable. Just make sure you have a damn good holiday after all that!
  • Skyscanner offers a number of alternative carriers from Birmingham, only an hour down the M42 from East Midlands.

Monarch, Air Lingus, BMI Baby, Lufthansa ..... and Easyjet
