Quick story - was with O2 on sim only, no need for a new handset. Average bill was £27 a month. Walking past Carphone Warehouse, just happened to pop in. Walked out with a £25 month contract, 600 cross-network anytime minutes, unlimited texts, phone worth £200, free Wii with Wii Sports Resort. I've just sold the phone on ebay for £150. So, I have more minutes and texts for a lower bill, a free Wii and £150 for the phone....!!!

    24 month contract?

If so 25x24 = £600 minus £150 for that phone you said was worth £200, catch is you £450 worth of fish caught. :D

Oh ok take off the cost of the Wii etc another £150, so £300 over 24 months?

You pay for the phone and wii through the tariff, you're basically not getting as good a deal as you could normally without the free gifts. £25 per month would give you 1000 minutes with tesco mobile (o2), or would cost you £15 for your 600 minutes..

sounds like your deal was ok, unlucky that you have to deal with CPW though. ew.

You were probably paying over the odds at £27 a month. You could have got 800 minutes x network and unlimited texts on o2 on a 12 month sim only contract. You could also have got a Virgin Sim only at £15 a month with 500 mins and unlimited texts on a 1 month contract. You don't say how many minutes and texts you use but the cheapest virgin sim only tarrif is £10 a month for 200 minutes and unlimited texts.

You seem to have done well, the Wii and the sale of the phone is about £300 so you've probably done OK but you probably could have got it a bit cheaper without the Wii, the free gifts have to be paid for somewhere, but of course big co's can order them in bulk so the deal costs less than you think it may have to them.

Sort of - trying not to burst your bubble  ..... too much ....

Did you get £150 for the phone before or after paying ebay / paypal fees - oh there I go again :D

after paying fees. We were going to get a wii anyway, so that's cheered me up a bit. At least I'm not out of pocket - same money over the 2 years to O2 with a free wii? Is that right? Someone make me feel good about this please!!

Well look at it this way, with the fact that you wanted the Wii and my guess is its worth about £150, your total cost is £300 over 24 months? Thats roughly £12.50 a month for 600 minutes and unlimited texts.

Admittedly you can find better deals for that with a phone. Oh and you could have got £35 from Quidco cashback if bought online ...........oooops I must stop doing this, making you feel bad :D.......

As long as it suits your needs, be happy! Best way to look at it, you were spending £27 a month before.

Your bill is less and you got money in your pocket and a wii
If you were going to buy the wii and resort £150+
    you got £150 for the phone= +£300
    £2 less per month =+£48

therefore you are £348 up on the last two years

If you add up the contract over two years is £600

if you take off the £348 your contract is £252 over 2 years which is £10.50 per month

Hows that for working out a positive for it?
