I'm loving this thread. I'm a huge fan of this site but sometimes forget to do some of the moneysaving things, so I've just run into my bathroom to fill up the 1/2 full shampoo bottle, shower gel bottle, handwash bottle and mouthwash bottle with water so they last twice as long - thanks for the reminder
I do most of the things on this thread but here's a tip that hasn't been mentioned yet.
Stop buying cotton wool. Just buy a pack of about 12 muslin cloths (baby section on ebay) and use one of these to remove your makeup then just put it in the wash. I'm still on the same pack of 12 after 4 years!
Also I put j cloths through the washing machine and also the green scourer things - they come up as good as new.
keep them comingMS Stalwart. Used site for >10 years :jMake Do, Mend and Minimise member - focussing on upcycling/repurposing and sewing0 -
I also have got my OH to covert our old coalhouse to a store room .
Its outside the back door so keeps really cool in summer and is still frost free in winter.
Hes put up lots of shelves to store stuff on.
Keeps my spuds as good as when I bought, them for weeks on end
also keep extra toiletries, hoarded in H&B days in Tesco ,toilet rolls ,kitchen cleaners, cans, boxes of cat food, bottles water ,squash ,anything really ,thats on offer ,baked beans, tins than wont fit in my kitchen food cupboard.
This has been my best little room and I always keep this one tidyEarnings £245 in 2014:T thanks to swagbucks0 -
Ooh ooh I thought of another one...
You look in the budget/frugal cooking books in shops [in which you're window browsing or looking out for things you'll borrow in a library / get from greenmetropolis] and think "that'd be expensive! i could do that cheaper!"
oh dear.On the up

When you come from uni for the xmas holidays and moan at your parents for having a kitchen full of branded food!"We, the unwilling, led by the unknowing, are doing the impossible for the ungrateful. We have been doing so much, for so long, with so little, we are now qualified to do anything with nothing."

...you use half a dishwasher tab instead of a whole one
...When you check your bank account every morning so you know how much is in it and transfer any amount which does not make up a £10. Ie Balance £105.43 transfer £5.43 to CC.
...When you buy meat that is out of date that day and freeze
...When you only buy magazine subscriptions when you get 3/6 month offer at a £1 per issue and cancel before it goes to full price
...When you complain about the cost of eating out as you could make a meal just as nice at home for a fraction of the cost
...When you go to a number of supermarkets each month as you know which one is the cheapest for certain groceries
You could go on for ever!!!
And FINALLY when you LOVE telling people about how MSE changed your life - Thanks Martin!!! :money::jStart of debt free target Jan 2009
L=4,915 CC=5,261 O/D=2,500 Total = £12,676
Current level of debt April 2010

what a great idea! I'm going to try this one!weaving through the chaos...0 -
... when you realise that most of your conversations or justifications start with the words "On MSE..."
... When your customers ask you whats the latest thing you found on MSE, OR they don't have to ask why your loo rolls look slightly squished....
I also agree with the poster who said "when the whoopsies are still too expensive!"
JexI will pay jexygirl the compliment of saying that she invariably writes a lot of sense!0
