sound problems

i have recently connected up my old cinema surround sound doo dahh to my Virgin + box and now have a probem.
i have set it up very basic. optical wire from Virgin box to the amp, vocal, left, right and sub speaker connected to the amp as well.
the problem is that i can only get sound on some channels.
these vary so it's not as if it only happens on a selection on stations.
intitially i got sound on bbc1, itv, 5, etc and thought every second channel on the box was a problem. flicking through in a random order shows no such pattern.
as far as i can tell there is no malfunction with any of the equipment i am using.
any ideas as to why this problem may exist and especially how to solve?

First thing I would do would be to set the amp just to plain stereo, and continue from there, but if you're getting sound on certain channels, then it sounds like V+Box to amp connections are all fine. Sounds like there's a problem with the V+ box, or your cable 'signal'. I'd be trying a factory reset on the V+ box.0

I don't know - I don't have one. You've just turned it off and on, which would have been the first step. Try going into the menu, and system settings or installation or something similar - you're looking for something that says reset defaults or reset factory settings or something - have a look. This will remove all settings (and probably any recorded programmes) and start fresh, and may solve the problem. If it doesn't, the next stage might be a replacement box, in which case you'll lose your recorded stuff anyway.0

i have connected the "line" cables and it works fine with these but the optical cable still has issues. i have tried the cable with my PS2 to the sound amp and no issues.???fatblokexl:EasterBun:0

Check in the settings in you V+ box (try 'sound' first') to see if you need to enable or switch on the digital/optical output. Or maybe you need to switch between analogue or digital?0
