Worcester 9.24 Combi Boiler?

Options
Our old but reliable Worcester 9.24 boiler has suddenly started needing the water to be topped up every day. There are no obvious leaks anywhere. Can anyone please offer any suggestions? Thanks

    Hi,

Have you looked outside? 15mm copper pipe sticking out of the wall somewhere near the boiler.

    GSR.

OK expect 1 - 1.5 when cold. The Pressure Release Valve will be factory set to operate at about 3 bar. Thats when you get the "leaking" as you put it at the outside pipe. The PRV is automatic.

If it shot up to 3 bar and then came down again I'm suspecting the expansion vessel. May need recharging (ie pumping up) or the diaphragm inside is shot. Your manual may tell you how to pump up the pressure in the expansion vessel with a foot pump and the pressure to which it should be set. There is a valve on the EV which looks just like a car tyre valve. If water comes out when you depress it then the diapragm has definitely gone and you will need a new EV.

If your pipe is dripping outside its possible you will need a new pressure relief valve as well because when they blow they get grit and muck on the seating and then won't seal so your pressure will constantly drop due to the leak.

In any event I'm thinking you are making a telephone call in the morning to get someone out to it.

    Sorry can't be more help.

    Cheers

I don`t want to hi-jack the thread, although it looks obsolete now anyway.
My Myson Orion boiler has been making knocking/banging noises for a couple of months but I didn`t want to do anything in the recent cold snap in case things went wrong.
The system was partly drained a week ago and via the header tank I added Sentinel SX100 and have been running since although the noises still persist.
The boiler starts up and after about 15 minutes the noises start.
The temp on the boiler is set at 7 (max) and the pump is the middle setting of three.

Should I now add Sentinel SX200 and see if that works.
(I know it would have been easier to do it at the same time but I wanted to see if sx100 would help)

Is there any other thing that needs checking regarding the boiler noises?
