With the tax situation, is it in writting anywhere that you were to get 12 months? I take it it was a pre-registered car and not a brand new one? As if it was brand new and you are first keeper they would of taxed it just before you got it so it would either have 6 or 12 months on it. With it being a pre-reg that means the dealer registered it and you are in fact the second keeper not the first, and they would of had to tax it at the time in september which would add up to you only having 3 months left in december.
First thing you do when you buy a car is make sure everything is as it should be. Whether its a new car or a second hand one. You should match up the VIN correctly, make sure its the correct tax for the car and that the registration on it is the same. Also mileage etc etc!
So in the 3 months since it was taxed it had done 666 miles per week, I really dont believe that for a minute! Thats almost 100 miles a day. And for a demo car thats an awful lot!! When taking a car on a demo the sales person would prob do about 10miles max. So it would have to of been on 10 test drives per day for 3 months?????

Sounds like a rush job all round.

    Collection Xmas eve - tick

Carpets wet from same day valet - tick

Service book stamped (I presume this was not a service but a pre delivery inspection and techs often (but wrongly) will do the paperwork after and the figure was copied from the other paperwork not taken from the dash) -tick

Salesman not being arsed to check any of the above as he just wanted to throw the keys and run (and therefore not getting the correct tax - possibly not even same guy who sold you the car) - tick

I would keep the car because in the scheme of things there is nothing technically wrong with the car, its still got most its warranty, and 8k milage is pretty much spot on with a Ford job or manager car which is probably what this is.

However I would focus on the poor handover, the lack of checks , the sloppy approach at the dealership, and the loss of value caused by the additional 4000 miles.

To figure out compensation work out the hassle factor of them deregistering the car (not sure if its possible if they put milage at 4k on originals) so they would resell with another owner and 8k.)

I think you should be asking for them to pay for extended service and warranty cover through Ford (think they still do these). This means your 3 year warranty goes to 5 years and your First 5 services are free. This is a saving to you of £150 per interim and £250 per major so £850 plus another 2 years of warranty.

Cost to the dealer will be less than half that especially if they will be doing the servicing so that would be fair.

I would go in there (dont write - you dont have time) and ask to speak to the General Manager. (I wouldnt deal with the Salesman any more or the sales manager as all the paperwork has been seen by him too and therefore they will be more interested in covering their backsides than resolving this to your satisfaction )or phone up Dees and ask for the number for the Area or Franchise Director.

Any decent GM will be as !!!!ed off as you about this as its his reputation on line. He runs the whole site and taking £500 wooden dollars from sales and giving it to service to keep you happy will not effect his bottom line but means one less complaint from Head Office at his monthly meeting there.

    I believe it - I used to do it:rolleyes:

I dont think its a dealer demo (just maybe a car they refer to as a demo)- Its a Ford Rep or manager car that the dealer has bought in at a closed auction. These guys can do anything up to 2000 miles a week (especially if they are covering Scotland). Average is 500-1000 a week and they change them every 6k but due to ordering and delivery etc they can vary from as little as 7 miles (yes I did type 7 miles) up to 20k.

Take the hit, go and see the GM, live with the fact that YOU did not check the car thoroughly! Sorry for appearing harsh but some of the blame does lie with you!! The GM will normally batter someone if you go in and as other posters have said, offer something. Buying a car is normally the second biggest purchase people make yet its treated very casually by some! I just bought a brand new Mini Clubman and believe me I spent 2 hours at the dealership going over the car checking everything!

As far as I can see, because you have all the discrepancies in writing from the dealer, it shouldn't affect your rights that you were a little hasty in your purchase.
  • Take it back, tell them you are too stupid to be safe on the road

I presume you are joking as you can't be so unpleasant.
