Boiler scrappage scheme and finding installers

I've read this and seen the news about the boiler scrappage scheme, whereby £400 is available towards replacing G rated boilers.
Funnily enough, I had my boiler service this morning, the First Service as part of a Homecare agreement with BG. The boiler (unsurprisingly) has passed but is very inefficient, rated as a high G. When we bought our house we were under the impression that the boiler was no more than 10 years old, turns out it's more likely to be double that as our Potterton model stopped being produced in 1991!
I've arranged a no obligation quote with BG to find out about costs/payment plans for a new condensing boiler. With the scrappage scheme refund and the BG matching that, there's a potential £800 saving there.
My question is - being inexperienced at this sort of thing - how do I go about getting quotes elsewhere? Do I only approach the big companies or are there other ways of doing it?
Thanks

I think the scrapage scheme will apply to any fitter. I think you will just have to apply for the grant first. It will be very silly of the government to only allow large companies to do the offer, as it may send smaller companies bump at the time when we are trying to get out of a recession.
BG will be far larger than anyone else, we can normally beat BG's quote by around £2K on average.
Just ask a few companies for quotes and factor in a reduction of £4000 -
Thanks. Anyone got suggestions for good companies in the north Worcestershire area?:D0

I'm trying to do the same thing - you need to have a quote from at least one installer, and have their details including registration number, before you can send off for the voucher. I think it might be submitted online, but at the moment I can't get passed the screen that says 'your boiler may NOT qualify'.
The website is http://www.governmentboiler-scrappagescheme.info.
I'm hoping this site will have more info tomorrow for us all!Mortgage Free thanks to ill-health retirement0 -
That's right, you've got to get quotes and pick someone before you can get the voucher - they also have to grade it as a G rating I think. Question is, who to get quotes from? Got a no-obligation free BG quote coming up but thought I'd chance my arm and see if anyone can recommend local people...0

im hoping any fitter can do it - recently had a quote from BG, and even with their discounts, and trade-in schemes, we were still quoted just under £5k, so the £400 wont make much difference there

just tried that link for my boiler, and it says 'your boiler MAY not be eligible for the scrappage scheme'
so, how do you find out if it could be?

Mine too has just been declared 'useless' - the boiler has to have a poilot light - be over 15 years old - in working order unless you are over 60 thren it doesn't apply - th scheme is official on the 18th january - and you have to get quotes from any fitter who is registered - plus the name and model ect of your boiler - pay up front and then claim the £400 which apparently you get back within 25 working days - they have enough for 125,000 - on a first come first served basis (like the car scappage scheme - so they may extend it) If you 'google' boiler scrappage scheme all this information should come up - to give you a better idea - BG sounds so expensive - I was shocked at 2-3K - is this the average price for a little 24 combi boiler - WOW - think I might revert to a few logs!0
