MSE needs your help! New Online Budget Planner needs testing

I've only just opened the link so not tested the tool yet but... what the heck is the image in the top left of the screen?
It looks like a pair of boobs! :rotfl:
Sorry, work hate me testing their apps as I always pick on things like that
btw, I know it's a brain really... it just doesn't look much like one to me. I think I've been on the grabbit forum too much with all the over 18 threads :rotfl:

Very user friendly. I like the links to relevant MSE articles next to the spending categories.
Used firefox and didn't have any problems apart from it said I spent 0 and earned 0 as stellabgh pointed out.:hello:

Worked for me too on IE and vista - adding my love of the red button!0

I haven't read the comments previously as I wanted to give my first impressions (I'm using Firefox if that makes a difference!)
I don't like
that you can't tab from one field to another. It will allow you to tab but you can't then just type the amount into the field. Seems trivial, but this kind of thing will put me off using tools like this.
Electricity/gas...links to how to switch, not what you can do to reduce your usage of power.
When you click on SOA for forums it takes you to the start of the budget planner. Could it be converted into a format for the forums? If there was a way of removing things with a zero value? It would save a newbie having to use this one and the "normal" SOA website we've used.
I like
The links to guides about saving money on each category - nice and easy to use, espcially for people who are new to this budgeting lark.
When you click the question marks the way the box pops up. Very nifty!
The Big Red Button at the end is something that makes you go back and make sure you've done it right. I love that you can click on the categories and see a pie chart (I'm geeky about pie charts!)
Just a quick look, hope some of my comments are useful.0 -
works brill for me on firefox
love it - i get paid 4 weekly and its great for working out those bills which get paid monthly as well as stuff i need to pay out when i get paid ie petrol0 -
Nothing about timings of income ans outgoings, as that could be a practical issue, might it be useful for invlusion?0

Works fine for me - using IE 7. As a pp said I didn't like that you can't tab through and the big red button scared me for a second as I thought I was spending more than earning but over all I liked it!0

works fine on safari on the machelpful tips
it's spelt d-e-f-i-n-i-t-e-l-y
there - 'in or at that place'
their - 'owned by them'
they're - 'they are'
it's bought not brought (i just bought my chicken a suit from that new shop for £6.34)0 -
Worked fine for me on IE7 & Vista.
Took quite a long time to initially load, and the total calculations screen took a looooong time to scroll up through all the numbers until reaching the calculation - this was really frustrating!
Good set of links.
Didn't realise there were tabs?
And I agree with #28 regarding the screen refreshing, but not sure how you'd get round that.
Overall, a good piece of kit, thanks :beer:0
