Radiator problem....

Was going to put 'bleeding radiators' but thought it would be mis read!
My 2 radiators downstairs are warm at the top and cold at the bottom..I have a radiator key and have used that to open the valve to let air out, but it's not air it's water..does this mean it's not air in the radiator thats causing the problem, or am I just not doing it for long enough?
Any tips/advice really welcome!

Better qualified will no doubt add to this but the problem you describe is more to do with sludge in the bottom of the radiators, which will need flushing.

Cool at the top and hot at the bottom usually requires bleeding.
