Lawn Scarification

Meant to have my lawn scarificed this week but seriously thinking of cancelling it due to the snow/frost, anyone think I should cancel it and if so when would be better time of year to rebook it? Thanks

I scarify mine after the last cut of the year.
I can't imagine it would be worthwhile when the ground is frozen.

Scarifying should be done late September to mid October.

Was thinking that and its "GreenThumb" that are doing it would've thought they'd know better!!
  • Some people do it in early spring or in late Autumn. If you were to try and do it in the current climate I'm pretty sure you would do serious damage to the machine.

    Cancel the appointment.

All the lawn care books and websites I've read make it clear you are not suppose to walk on frozen lawns let alone do any work on them.
    I'm not cynical I'm realistic :p

I often forget/don't get around to doing mine in the autumn and do it in the spring. Never found any problems although the books do say it's best in autumn. Can damage the new delicate grass shoots if done after the grass has started to grow.

  • About £65 think its priced by lawn size
  • I run a lawn care company - never, ever, ever go near a lawn with a scarifier when their is any snow or frost on it !

Heavy scarifying should be done in the Autumn lighter scarifying can be done in the Spring - that said it all realy depends on the individual lawn and the weather at the time you are doing it.
