Free Sky+

Thought this might help someone-could mean it`s the right day for a deal!

Just phoned Sky to tell them I would like to cancel to go to Virgin as they are offering free installation of their v+hd boxes and we have tried to get a cheap deal from Sky before with no luck. New customers-yes. Customer of 11 years-no.

I was put through to the cancellation department and the person was chatty and basically said we can do it for you - a sky+ box and installation - for 15 pounds. We agreed.

When she tried to put our deal through it wouldn`t accept the 15 pounds so she said rather than charge us more to make it go through she would do it for free.

So that`s a Sky+ box and installation for free. And I checked that it was a new box. And it`s being fitted on Sunday.

Thumbs up to Sky for coming up with this deal for us when we really were going to cancel.

When you threaten to cancel is the only time that Sky will come up with a good deal. You are now doubtless tied in for another 12 months.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)

There is no such thing as " Free Sky+ ", you still have to pay the nice Mr. Murdoch every month to receive it, and to use the facilities.
  • What package are you on?
  • We have everything but the sports channels.

And I don`t mind paying for this service. I`ve been with them a long time and the only reason I wanted to leave was to have a + box and the deal with Virgin was better than any that Sky had come up with. Overall I have had good experiences with Sky and certainly am not worried about being tied into their contract for another 12 months.

There`s no extra charge for Sky+ if you`re a Sky tv customer -

Sky+: If you do not take up this Sky+ offer Sky+ box costs £49 for new Sky TV customers. For existing Sky TV customers Sky+ box £149 (or £49 when taking a new Multiroom subscription). Existing customers need to sign up to another 12 month minimum term for Sky TV. One £49/£149 box per household and not available if you already have Sky+/SkyHD/Sky+HD box or if you take a Sky+HD box at the same time. Sky+ box up to £199 if you are not eligible for discounted price (Sky TV subscription required). Sky+ can store an average of 40 hours of programmes. Sky+ functionality requires a Sky+ subscription (free for Sky TV customers, or £10 pm) and two satellite feeds-

    from the Sky website.

The box you'll likely get is one of the early phase 1 Sky+ boxes, when I worked for Sky they had the same 'offer/incentive' for churning customers & that's what they got.

i thought i was gettting a good deal, when i threatened to cancel i was offered sky+ box installed for £29. No one told me it would be a reconditioned one. I only found that out when trying to use sky anytime and found out my 8 year old reconitioned box wouldnt get that service. After numerous complaints i was told 'tough', we wont release you from your contract, we wont give you a newer second hand box, basically s@d off.

    NOT TRUE!!

Last christmas (2008/2009) I a had FREE brand new Sky+ box, FREE installation and FREE entertainment package for a year (all channels except Movies and Sport), without paying a penny. It expires in 10 days time as I cancelled back in December (when my FREE 12 months package expired) making sure Mr Murdock did not get any funds out of me

Apart from the excellent Sky+ recording and pausing live tv facility, I barely watched it! but hey it was free ;)
