Being forced to work hours back - snow

The Anihilator suggested getting a Taxi, would that be the one I saw sliding down the road until it hit the kerb with it's wheels still spinning? Where I am in Wales even the police are stuck, 4 x 4s were faring little better. Myself and other residents were gritting roads, and trying to make some roads passable, and idiots kept trying to go up the hill, and came sliding back down. Did they think to help us spread the grit. Noooooo, a Highways Agency Motorway Patrol plastic plod came up in a Toyota 4 x 4 nearly ran me down, he had a shovelful of grit across his windscreen, and was pelted with snowballs by local youths further up the road who saw him almost run volunteers over. As an aside a colleague transport manager told a driver to do something, the driver refused, manager put him on a DP, driver decked manager who does the Anihilator think was sacked?0

My employer shut my place of work for the 3 days running up to xmas due to the snow and if you went in you were either not allowed in or if you did get in you were sent home, we have now been told that we all have to make the hours back. I don't think that this is right as it was not our choice to not work.
Does anyone know if we legally have to work back the hours???0 -
I don't see how they can expect you to make the hours up if they shut the place down. You were avaliable for work but told by management not to attend.0

Yes, I agree with the above, if the management team made the decision to close, I would agree that staff shoudl be paid.0

That's what I thought but unsure where I stand if I legally have to make up the hours or not?0

Well, it didn't even snow here, but it's a lot colder today. I got on the train, it travelled about 200 metres and stopped. 40 minutes later we were back at the starting station with an announcement that no further trains were heading in that direction today. I still haven't figured out why (my understanding of Dutch is limited).
Managed to get a couple of buses into work and am now defrosting. But there wasn't even any snow! There is some expected today and tomorrow though so I expect chaos. Joy.February wins: Theatre tickets0 -

The driver and if not its disgusting and I hope the police was called.
Funnily enough all I hear is excuses about this snow. The majority seem capable of making it to work etc. Convenient how they all live in these parallel universes were travel is just made more difficult by snow.:rolleyes:0 -
