Being forced to work hours back - snow

A lift - From who? Fairy Godmother?
Waiting for the bus - a futile task if they are not running!
Not everyone lives in the same place. Some are closer to work than others and so experience different challenges in their journey.
For example, if I lived within a 2-3 miles of work, I could still walk to work. But if I was further out, say 10 miles for example, then I wouldn't be able to walk.
So what your saying is no buses, taxis, anything at all is going there. If this is the case then no one would be there.
Your pulling a fast one.0 -

Your pulling a fast one.
I don't know how to put this any clearer:
People live in different places and so have different ROUTES to work.
It is entirely possible for one person to have 2 feet of snow in their home town, whilst one of their colleague's only has 2 inches in their home town.
So, obviously (not to mention, logically), it will be easier for some people to get to work than others.
I am not pulling anything. This is a hypothetical discussion. I am at work now, I have been throughout most of the bad weather (had a few days holiday before and after Christmas).
The only day I didn't make it, I worked from home all day, as did the rest of my team. No point wasting 2-3 hours travelling, when I can spend that time working.February wins: Theatre tickets0 -
I think a lot of this is caused by schools. I think there are a lot of people that think oh well the schools are off so I might as well be.
We had really bad snow a few years ago in Norwich and lots of cars were getting stuck and you really could not drive anywhere.
I lived about an hour to hour and a half from work and I would have walked if I had no other choice.
It is actually suprising how many people make it in to do some shopping on days where there is bad weather but cant make it to their workplace. A fair few of them seem to be teachers.JeremyMarried 9th May 20090 -

It is not physically possible for you to have no way of getting to work at all and other colleagues do.
If it is possible then you get public transport as far as you can then walk until the public transport is available again.
You just fancied a day off rather than putting in the extra effort and time to get there.
Its not your colleagues problem you choose to commute further than them.
Of course you should work back the time or be docked.0 -

You just fancied a day off rather than putting in the extra effort and time to get there. What day off? I was working from home the entire time.
Its not your colleagues problem you choose to commute further than them. Who said it was my colleagues problem?
Of course you should work back the time or be docked. I don't disagree on this.
It's almost as if you never read my posts. :rolleyes:February wins: Theatre tickets0 -

You could open up the discussion for questions so that your employees understand what is expected of them and then everyone is clear on their 'entitlement'.
If they still feel they are entitled to pay after that, well, tough. At least you will have openly discussed the company policy with them so they can never claim they didn't know.
I can't see why there would be any confusion when I wrote this into the company policy and their contracts. But I shall clarify nonetheless.0 -

Probably the top of a mountain as you like to look down on everyone.0 -

Sorry, wasn't trying to insinuate that it isn't clear in the contracts etc. But, I know that a lot of employees don't read their contracts, or company policy in full. And, even if they did, they may have forgotten.
If you re-iterate the policy to them then it will be fresh in their minds.February wins: Theatre tickets0
