That news is very welcome, although possibly not surprising from our experience of Kia's (we've had a Rio for 6 years and the only issue has been a wheel bearing and the rear suspension bushes were showing signs of needing replacing at the last service*).

They aren't pretty cars, and the finish may not be great, but they compare fairly well to Vauxhalls imo, and are much cheaper (our Rio cost less than a basic spec Corsa for example, by a couple of thousand when we bought it).

At the moment it's looking likely we'll be getting another Kia in a couple of years, when our current one reaches the end of it's life/we can afford it (although given how it's running, I wouldn't be surprised if it's still running in 5 years+).

I've noticed a few of our better/more reliable local taxi firms seem to be using a lot of Korean cars now, including some of the larger Kia's, which tends to say something to me about reliability on the whole, as they wouldn't go for them if they had any issues with the reliability of the cars.

IIRC KIA's warranty is bumper to bumper, only normal service items (tyres/brakes/wiper blades and i suspect fanbelt) aren't covered.

*We had them replaced at the first suggestion from the garage (I suspect my dad's habit of loading the car up with DIY supplies may not have helped the suspension, especially with the potholes round here).

these warranties are very tempting but the brand and car itsself is not. this is exactly why they offer it to try and alter perceptions, and i think its working, well done car makers!

ps. if the warranty is anything like other manufacturers it only covers actual catasprophic engine failure.
no tyres, brakes, exhaust, wear and tear, etc etc

no warranty will cover for wear and tear items like tyres, brakes and exhaust.......the warranty covers manufacturing faults like engine the engine, transmission etc
Everyones opinion is the most important.....no wonder nothing is ever agreed on.

Daihatsu is Japanese, mainly owned by Toyota, Kia is Korean, mainly owned by Hyundai.
    :rotfl:

That will teach me not to be more specific. I was actually looking for differences in terms of build quality, reliability, cost of running, etc.

Or is what you're telling me Inactive? As it used to be the case, many years ago, that Japanese cars had a bad name for the body work rusting. But I did not think that was the case now?

    Kia 7 Year Warranty

Yes we thought that would make you look at us in a slightly different way.
To get a better perspective, let's say you buy a new Kia from today (which we highly recommend) your car will still be under warranty in 2017.
2017. That's two World Cups, two Olympics and a couple of General Elections away.
No other car manufacturer in Europe has faith enough in their cars to offer you that length of warranty.
Maybe because no other car range is produced in some of the World's most technologically advanced car factories.
Our massive investment in state-of-the-art manufacturing ensures future quality standards and sets a new benchmark for vehicle production.
That's why we can offer our industry-leading 7 year warranty.
And if that managed to turn your head, perhaps you'd like to view our range.
We're sure our range of cars will do exactly the same.

The Kia 7 Year Warranty – Frequently Asked Questions

    1. What models does it apply to?

The Kia 7 year warranty applies to all new Kia vehicles registered from 1st January 2010.

    2. Exactly how long is the warranty?

The warranty is a full 7 years from date of first registration OR to a maximum of 100,000 miles (whichever is the sooner). For the first three years of the warranty, the mileage is unlimited.

    3. Can I update my current 3 or 5 year Kia warranty to 7 years?

Kia Extended Warranties can be purchased for vehicles that have a 3 year manufacturers warranty. Cover can be purchased for an additional 12 or 24 months from just £199. To purchase cover or for a quote, please call 0845 573 8047.
Unfortunately there are no options available to extend a vehicle with 5 years manufacturers cover.

    4. What is actually covered?

Some items have a natural limited life/durability and are therefore covered for less than 7 years. These items include (but are not restricted to) consumable parts such as worn windscreen wiper blades, clutch linings, etc. The vehicle battery is warranted for a period of 2 years. The audio system is warranted for 3 years/60,000 miles and vehicle paint is warranted for 5 years/100,000 miles.

For all other components, the total cost of parts and labour associated with any warranty claim are covered.

    5. What if I am a taxi or fleet car driver?

For fleets and company cars, the warranty coverage remains exactly the same. For a vehicle used as a taxi or private hire vehicle, the warranty is limited to a maximum of 100,000 miles in the first three years. Otherwise, coverage is the same.

    6. Can I transfer the warranty to the next owner when I sell my car?

Yes - the Kia 7 year warranty is fully transferable to any subsequent owner of the vehicle while still valid.

    7. Why is Kia the only manufacturer that offers 7 years?

Kia cars are rigorously tested to ensure the highest possible standards of reliability and durability. In addition, due to the investment by Kia in the most technologically advanced production facilities and manufacturing techniques, Kia can ensure future quality standards. This outstanding production quality is what gives Kia the confidence to offer a full 7 year manufacturers warranty across its entire range of vehicles.

    8. Would an unlimited mileage warranty not have been better?

There is no mileage limitation to the Kia 7 year warranty over the first 3 years. Over the full period of the warranty, the mileage limit is 100,000 miles.

    9. What about anti-perforation coverage?

All Kia cars are covered for a minimum of 7 years/100,000 miles. Some are covered for up to 12 years. Please contact your local Kia dealer for full details.

    10. Is roadside assistance included?

Every new Kia comes with 12 months KIAssist roadside assistance package as standard.

    11. In which countries is my car covered?

The Kia 7 year warranty is valid in all EEA (European Economic Area) countries except for Bulgaria and Romania.

    12. Are all dealers participating?

Yes - all official Kia franchised dealers throughout the EU will be available to administer and undertake any necessary work under the terms of the warranty.

    13. When is the 7 year warranty valid from?

Any new Kia vehicle registered from 1st January 2010 will have the Kia 7 year warranty.

    14. I already have a Kia registered before 1st January 2010. Will the terms and conditions of my warranty change in line with the announcement of the 7 year warranty across the range?

No - if you already have a Kia the warranty terms and conditions remain unchanged from when you bought it. If you have an extended Kia warranty applied to a Kia Approved Used car, please refer to the separate warranty terms and conditions that apply.
    Warranty Terms and Conditions

The 7 year warranty is effective on all vehicles registered from 1 January 2010. Any vehicles already registered in 2010 will receive a 7 year warranty but customers will need to return to their Kia dealer to receive updated WISE labels, rear window stickers and handbooks.
The 7 year warranty is a full manufacturer’s warranty. The exact terms and conditions vary slightly between models but as a minimum:
    • there is no mileage limit during the first 3 years, except for vehicles used as taxis where a limit of 100,000 miles applies.
    • there is a 100,000 mile limit between years 4 and 7.
    • paintwork is covered for 5 years / 100,000 miles..
    • audio is covered for 3 years / 60,000 miles.
    • batteries are covered for 2 years.
    • normal ‘wear and tear’ on items such as brake linings and clutch linings, etc. are excluded from cover.
    • the warranty is transferable to subsequent owners and is valid across Europe.
Only downside seems to be that if you use it for more than the basic average mileage it wont last 7 years.

Korean cars are now, as reliable as Japanese cars, possibly not quite as refined, however I took out a Kia Ceed on a free 3 day loan a couple of years ago and I was highly impressed with the build quality, so not much to choose between Japanese and Korean brands these days.

They are all much better than anything made in France or Italy.:D

I love how imperative they think it is for you to go back and get your new rear window stickers! Doesn't seem a half bad deal though. So if you do a huge mileage you get a minimum of 3 years basically. And if you've done 100k by the time your 3 years is up your warranty expires.

Thanks Inactive, looks like it will come down to how the two cars feel when I drive them.

OK this might seem a silly question but how did you get a free 3 day loan from kia? Was it as simple as just asking?

Any time I've had a test drive it is for an hour at most, with the sales man in the passenger seat.

Not a silly question at all, it was an offer that Kia ran at the time, sadly, I havn't seen it since.

My son bought a Ford truck in the US a couple of years ago with a ten year 100,000 mile warranty. It seems to be quite the standard thing there, for trucks anyway. I don't know why we don't get this here.
I used to think that good grammar is important, but now I know that good wine is importanter.
