Well myself, if I was physically looking at the system I could sort it out there and then, it's hard to do tasks such as these via the net.

It could be that it's set to check for messages at startup, could be a third party spam box causing the hang, could be messenger, a corrupt .dll, spyware, virii data etc.

Might be also a poorly configured swap/page file.

Ahh it might also be messages to be sent at the start and the machine is a zombie spam server trying to send files far to large.

It could be anything.

A repair install might fix it.

Bay Servers.

Well Hotmail uses 'bays' for their email.

Bay001 - Bay 150 etc.. It just means it's another server on their end.

Hi : Have finally sorted my problem!! I have removed Spamfighter and this has done the trick. I think the automated updates for Spamfighter began to interfere with Avast, causing some sort of conflict - either that, or Spamfighter was interfering with Windows XP. Anyhow, removing it has sorted it out. Thanks for all the tips.
