    From the Government Scrappage web Site;

    " When trading in your old vehicle for a new vehicle the registered keeper for both vehicles must be the same. "

    cheers for that and all the other bits of info too.

    All I've gotta do now is run it by my Mam and see if she'll go for it.

    I can see her being a bit sceptical about it.
  • I used my daughter's car as scrappage for my new car. Everything had to be in her name, and we just changed the registered owner straight after picking it up from the dealer.

    I think your Mum could probably get 1k off the list price anyway so I think £500 each would be a fairer split.

    Just one additional piece of info; If the new car is written off in it's first year, because it has technically been pre - owned, the insurers will not replace it with a new car.

    Is this what happens when you write off a new car in the first year? I thought the insurers would just provide you with a cheque as they do with any other claim? What if you dont want the same car again?!
