Sounds like a right lemon. Where did you get it from?

self build by amate :) ran fine for 4 years but I think it's been struggling with upgrades...

may have to get b/f to move in so I can have his new pc, but that seems a bit extreme..! Off to look at dell outlet shop for me..

Agreed. It will cut out if over-stretched. Do you know it's rating or have you decided to go to Dell anyway?
Have you got a powerful graphics card?
You could always put your second HD in an external enclosure if that's what's dragging it all down, but a more powerful PSU might be the answer to all your probs (well, computer ones anyway).

No, I wouldn't have thought so. Still, seems a shame to give up on it. Problem is I'd need to look at it, sounds like something is shorting if it's not the OS crashing.

Trouble is I could spend another £50 on callouts, couple of hundred on parts... I don't need anything as high end as b/f, no doom/half life /7.1 surroundsound for me..maybe some vidoe editing and everquesting, and that's it... probably as well starting with a clean sheet, and donating spare parts to mates!

Fair enough. Assuming you have a monitor, keyboard, mouse, speakers etc all you need to do is get a base unit. Should keep the cost down!

Haven't bought one for awhile. Figure your specs out and ask mse, I'd be interested in what people come up with. Good luck.

PS Never ask your B/F to move in, it's just not fair on him:rotfl:
