  • I was dubious about hot water but was desperate as it was too cold in the house!

Spoke to a colleague who said he saw a programme (can't remember which one he said sorry) which had a boiler engineer on there saying pour hot water over the pipes they can cope with it, so I don't know
In spite of the cost of living, it’s still popular
  • My wife wrapped towels around the pipe and poured the hot water on them, double benefit of not damaging the pipe and keeping the heat on the pipe for longer. Worked a treat!

Narrow condensate run-off pipe is our problem, even though we just lagged it (!), will replace later I thnk.
    Friendly greeting!

cracking the plastice pipe using hot water is not a major issue, would just need replacing- better with a larger pipe ,

would need a 21.5mm- 32mm joint , I would prefer this inside but would mean a larger hole needs drilling , so likely outside with initial 21.5mm heavily insulated

as mentioned I've made a temp job of re-routing indoors until weahther improves

  • Condensate from my boiler is Luke warm, and that seems to prevent
it from freezing. Many years ago, I installed a dehumidifier which
ran permanently with a plumbed-in condensate drain pipe. For this,
I ran a length of resistance wire (in PTFE insulation) along the
inside of the condensate pipe and extending an inch or so from the
end. I ran it from a low voltage AC supply on an outdoor frost stat.
That worked fine. There are more professional equivalents of this
available, but they are not at all cheap (tend to be used on things
    like outdoor sprinkler installation pipework).
condensate pipe will flow through even ice. I have had that pipe sticking
out of the wall now for more years than I can remember and never a drop.

  • I too have a Worcester Greenstar boiler which made such a noise on 24th December I thought it was going to explode and switched it off. The next thing was water was pouring out of the boiler and it stopped working so I had no heating on Christmas Day. Although the installer was Worcester Boch approved they did not pack trhe flue properly and you could see daylight round it. I was told by Hydro Electric that the reason the boiler had stopped working was because the installer had put in a 22mm pipe instead of a 38 mm pipe. My legal insurance are now trying to sort the matter out since I was told the boiler will stop working again when the temperature reaches a certain level but I know the company who installed it will want me to pay for the scaffolding to put in the correct pipe even though it was their fault because they demanded I must pay for scaffolding when another heating company told me they had not packed the flue properly. My radiator has leaked twice since this boiler was installed and ruined the carpet. When an old gas pipe was taken out they left a hole in the floor of the cupboard where the pipe had been and mice got in and I woke up to find my settee ruined and in holes. I am very annoyed at all the steam that comes from this Worcester Bosch Greenstar boiler since it spoils the beautiful view of the trees. I cannot open the windows unless the boiler is switched off since I don't know if it is dangerous to breathe in the steam. Right now I cannot open my windows because steam from a neighbour's boiler is going past my windows. This is a nightmare in a block of flats that steam from all the neighbours windows can go past my windows. The law says that the flue can be installed just feet away from a window which I think is very wrong and my windows don't fit as well as they might and so this steam must be coming inside even when the windows are closed and I wonder if it is bad for health. The boiler was installed in a cupboard in my bedroom and I can't sleep at night for the noise and have to switch the boiler off not least since the pipes under the floor also shudder and make noise. The carpet had to be thrown out because of a water leak but now Worcester Bosch say that they think the marks on the floor are caused by damp. I wonder if it is damp from the steam boiler since I can smell steam. I am afraid to get the new carpet laid since I have had 3 water leaks since this boiler went in, one from the boiler itself and 2 from the radiator not far from the boiler. I wish I could go back to my old boiler.
