Once they're living together, I'll be spending the same on them. If they're at the dating stage, I expect I'll do what you did this time. My inlaws treat me as a daughter and I really appreciate that and call them Mum and Dad.
May all your dots fall silently to the ground.

my mum and dad generally spend more on us than they do on my sisters partner and my husband but thats mainly down to what people ask for.

    For example.
My hubby asked for a dvd box set, an xbox game or a book.
I just asked for a perfume set (the only thing I could think of given pregnancy brain), so hubbys gift was more than mine, but im not bothered.

I'd say as the first christmas they're "together as partners" (as in committed when living together full time) I'd say spending in the region of £20-£25 in value would be fine.

My mother spent more on Husband than on me this year. She took my three suggestions as to what she could buy for him and bought all of them rather than just one but then bought me some shampoo and a rather inexplicable jewellery box.

My inlaws spend the same on DH and me, but we've been married aaaages (10 years this year ). I think they have done this since we've been married.

Before we married, I never spent my Christmas with them, so I think I just got a token gift, which was fair enough.

Now I'm worrying what to do with my sons' future girlfriends' gifts, and my eldest is only 6! :rotfl::o

My son is 25 and living at home. He's being going out with his g/f for 2 years. He's planning on buying somewhere this year and I think she'll be moving in with him as I think they're pretty serious. But for the past 2 years i've given her gift vouchers worth £50. My son gets more. If they move in together I think his will be cut down to what she gets - I think that's what i'd do anyhow.

From my Mum and steodad, I got a George Foreman for my birthday (22nd Dec) and a Per Una dressing gown, John Rocha Pjs and Per Una slippers for Christmas.

OH got from them, a massive beast of a tool chest (those big red ones with drawers and cupboards underneath) for both his bday (his is 23rd Dec) and Christmas. Plus she got him a Haynes build your own something or other engine, which he nearly peed his pants over (the big kid!)

I got what I asked for, can't believe I knocked back a Radley bag though lol!

My Dad got us both a Sony camcorder for both our bdays and Christmas. (Tell a lie, he got me a bottle southern comfort for my bday and OH a bottle of JD for his bday too!)

I think when my kids are older, I'll spoil them on their birthdays, and get something equal for them and their OH's (aftershave and perfume for example) at Christmas, unless there is something I know they both would like.

Note, I said I think.......I may change my mind, I have a few years to sort out yet lol!

My parents bought more for me and a little present for hubby before we married. Once we married we got some money between us, plus a smaller present each BUT we had a child (their 1st grandchild) within our 1st year of marriage and then my sister had twins a year later..so within a year parents went from 0 grandkids to 3 and then we got less cos there was more to buy for.

P.S- My MIL buys something personal for hubby, like a book on a subject he's interested in and a generic household item for me. Don't do this -unless you want to end up being moaned about on the worst gifts thread.:rotfl:

My parents and gran sent equal (but separate) amounts of money for both DH and myself. DH spent all of his on DVD's / Music etc. I spent mine on buying in food for the Xmas table!

I got a keyring & sweets from MIL. DH got a puzzle game & sweets - so about same value there.

My MIL put an ashtray in with my present one year. I don't smoke, but my husband, her son, does. He's never had an ashtray in with his!
