My god. How many people hear this and then just pay up? Even if they've not got their ship in order enough to do it.
NEVER EVER phone a debt collection agency. Do EVERYTHING in writing0 -
wishingonastar wrote:i've just done the letter, will get a postal order this afternoon. does anyone know if what they said is true though about chasing my parents and/or putting a claim on my property (house?)
Oh and if they chase your parents you can report them for breach of the Data Protection act. The only person they have a right to contact is you.
My God the tripe these people spout is incredible!0 -

thanks for all your help, i feel much better now. i'll never phone them again i can tell you. they made me feel like a criminal, and frightened me more than i can ever remember being.
letter is ready to go in post soon as i get a postal order, and i look forward to not hearing back from them.£2 saver club 30th sept 198 £2 coins = £396(£350 banked)0 -
If they call you - hang up. You've sent the letter
No they can do NONE of what they threatened. The debt is yours and yours only, they cannot contact your parents regarding it - as someone mentioned it's a breach of the data protection act. They also will not able to "just get it taken from your salary", again breach of data protection act and trust me your employer would probably laugh LOUDLY if they even tried it - rapidly followed by you taking them to court.
The guy was threatening you with completely empty threats and in fact if you'd been able to record it should be fired for that (once the financal ombuds man got wind of it anyway). If Westcot have no claim in law, aren't they guilty of attempting to obtain money by deception ? That comes under fraud and is a criminal offense:j The £2 CSC = £48 in carton£100 banked Mar 06V-Free : 4 weeks0

Or alternatively you could take a tip from another advice site I know of. Treat yourself to a nice bar of choccy to cheer yourself up after your ordeal today.
Then slip the wrapper into an envelope and send it to the address on the letter they sent you. And don't put a stamp on it.
They will merrily trot down to the post office to collect it thinking it's a cheque and pay the excess postage. Cost of bar of chocolate 45p. Look on their face after wasted trip to the post office, paying a £1 and collecting an envelope with rubbish in it? Priceless0 -
