Tiling bathroom walls

We're tiling the walls floor to ceiling and planning a vinyl floor. Can we take the tiles down to the floor or would it be best to have a skirting board?

Skirting board with wall tiles is verrrrrrrry dated! Take 'em down to the floor.

Indeed. And then seal the tile/vinyl joint with silicone sealant.

It's things like this and sealing the join between the tiles and vinyl that were making me question our plan to have the tiles down to the floor. I think it looks so much better!

I tiled mine down to the floor and never considered skirting. Looks much cleaner and simple.

You'll only end up having to maintain skirting by painting it and it gathers the dust on top.

We hoover the middle and run the attachment round the edge or mop it.

I've seen vinyl floorings which have like an upskirt so they sweep up tiles about 6 inch's which also looks good and gives a clean finish.

To enable you to be careless with the hoover?

Tiles right down to the floor every time.
I can afford anything that I want.
Just so long as I don't want much.

    Hi Mojisola

We have tiles going down to a vinyl floor. Absolutely fine, no problems. Our vinyl fitter told us to seal between vinyl and wall tiles with clear silicone as it looks so much better than white. He's right (we have white in the en-suite which the builders did, clear is much better. I don't find the need to vacuum in the bathroom, most you get in there is hair (we have no outdoor shoes indoors so no dirt/grit/sand gets upstairs). I sweep with a soft broom then mop.

If you want to see a picture, you can see my before and after pics on my blog here - scroll down to Bathroom, the last three lots of photos in that section show the floor - the right hand side ones are the "afters" and if you click to enlarge you'll see clearly how much better it looks than skirting board.
  • looks like a very nice job. well done both
