Leeds city council are dreadful

i wear I am not a person to complain but LCC are a joke, i pay £74.00 per month in tax to them without fail. I have as others had to endure nearly 8 weeks of rubbish not collected due to strike. Then coming up to xmas we are told to put bins out on Sunday (a day early) and whilst it snows it it transpires they canot get the HUGE lorry down our street due to snow fall and health and safety. But, this is the best bit we residents can even though LCC have NOT gritted the path or the road ONCE so LCC have not gritted therefore their Refuse Lorry cannot get down our street. Its now 4th jan and we all put our bins out as usual and yup no collection, and here I am just issued my Direct Debit to pay LCC for my council tax and just not getting the service at all. All residents are hacving to park their cars away from home as the roads are un grittted its disgusting, what can I do?

Probably nothing except stand for election next time round, or move.
Councils do not have to grit every road and footpath, they prioritise which ones are most important. Sorry. If you find you are drinking too much give this number a call. 0845 769 75550 -
I too Live in Leeds and pay a large council tax bill every year and have also found the same problems as you, I can understand that they have to prioritise the roads that are important but it has been mayhem in our street since Xmas day, there has been more car's bumping into each other and into walls causing £100's of damage.
Today I witnessed a council tipper truck go to the end of the street and 3 young workers got out and tipped a pile of rock salt into the bin then left!!! Why could they not have scattered some on the street and the paths, I then witnessed 4 old age pensioners go out and scatter the rock salt all over the street with their shovels, I went out to give them a hand and they made me go back in and put the kettle on....they said it was no job for a woman!! bless... I have one thing to say about LCC are a JOKE!!!!!!0 -

I'm also not impressed by Leeds City council. Today i've just fallen on one of their pavements and broken my ankle. I am absolutely livid as now i've had to defer placement, so its going to cost me probably the best part of 2k to retake my placement as i'll have to rent a house for up to 6 months as no where will rent for 2 months, it means that I won't graduate with the uni peeps plus i'm now on crutches for the next 6 weeks, and also means I wont be able to go on tour with the football lasses as i won't be strong enough as i'm struggling as it is!
I'm really livid as not once have the pavements been gritted. I do wonder where the money goes sometimes! Someone said to me earlier to sue them for it, i'm not bothered about sueing them I just wish they would buy some salt and grit the roads and paths as the state it is in at the moment is well and truely disgraceful and I am fuming.
Anyway, if anyone finds someone that is important that will do something about it all in the Leeds area, do let me know as i would love to speak my mind seen as due to no grit another 6 months of my life is going to be deferred!:T:T  :beer::beer: to the lil one:beer::beer::beer:

They grit pavements in Leeds?!?! Where I live, you're lucky to get a road gritted, let alone a pavement! I don't ever remember a pavement being gritted!!
If we're comparing rip off council taxes, then Oxford charge £1390 ish for a 2 bed flat (band C), and bin collections are only fortnightly, and were missed altogether over Christmas!
(Sorry to hear about the broken ankle btw...)Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')
No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)0 -
nah the pavements don't get gritted unfortunately, but i think they should. Apparently at home over 350 more people have gone in with broken bones! Thats 350 people that may have been avoided if they gritted the pavements. Its interesting where does get gritted, like train stations that care about their people, but its just everywhere else that needs to be sorted as the roads and pavements are a death trap, and only when something happens will they ever do something about it, which is wrong. I think the bins are another thing that needs to be sorted, as it will cause problems in the long run, but as long as the big fat cats are keeping their high saleries and are getting bonuses they don't care about the rest of us:T:T  :beer::beer: to the lil one

To be honest, I've been pretty impressed with our council (Huntingdon). Although our road hasn't been gritted and we have had pretty adverse weather. Bins still been collected and main roads are clear.
Remember your council tax pays for quite a lot.
If you can have a private police force, schools, social care, fire service, bin collections etc for £74 a month I would be impresssed, and you want hundreds of people to shovel out grit onto pavements?0 -
The pavements in Leeds are lethal in fine weather! The roads are a mass of potholes and patches. Kerbs are missing, uneven or broken - and that's in the city centre!
Have they fixed the skating rink pavement outside WHSmiths yet? That was a hazard that was inspired in hell. Even in dry weather the pavement was slippy.
Add weather to it, and it is a recipe for more calls on the NHS.Ankh Morpork Sunshine Sanctuary for Sick Dragons - don't let my flame go out!0 -
....didnt bother to collect (all of) our bins on the 14th December. Over xmas, we get weekly collections and should have come on the 21st but didnt. Was told to leave them out and they would catch up, but didnt. Didnt bother to come on the 28th. Eventually after much badgering they came on the 31st. And missed the collection today.
And gritting. Forget it. It snowed heavily on the 20th. It was a Met Office weather warning. FOR FIVE DAYS! And they gritted.....nothing. Steep hills, not bothered.
I put in a complaint and was told about the "unexpected conditions", which is a lie. My five year old was looking forward to it for FIVE DAYS!
I hate my council. They are useless.0
