Circle mirrors on left wing mirror, and a back mirror thingy on the back of a car

When learning driving, I have noticed the following, and the driving instructor tells me to use it when doing maneouvers:
  • on the wing mirror there is another small circle mirror stuck on the bottom left hand side of the left mirror. It is useful for reversing around the corner, and looking how close to the kurb the car is.
  • there is a mirror or some sticker thing stuck on the bottom right hand side of the back of the car. It is useful when doing parallel parking to see if you are near the kurb or car. It is also useful when doing bay parking to see the lines.
I hope you get what I mean, and know the exact names of those types of mirrors.

When I have a car, I wonder how much those things will cost, and where to buy them. I googled it but no luck.

They are a blind spot mirror and a rear parking lens. Both available at vastly inflated prices from Halfords - or probably £5.99ish for the mirrors and £8.99ish for the lens.

they should be used as aids to learning but once passed you shouldnt become reliant on them as there may be times you need to do it another car, like a hire car etc

Thanks for both for your replies.

I find it useful when learning to do maneouvers using those things, as most people do. I will use it in my own car, as it will help me when I pass the test. I think I'm used to using it and relying on it. :o

I will try to find those things from other places similar to Halfords, or online, since Halfords is expensive.
  • usually available from the larger pound stores

They are usually used by poor driving instructors who are incapable of, or too lazy to teach people to drive properly.

The little ones on the side mirrors can be very handy, especially if you are driving a van. Have to say though that the one I have on the back widow of the pick-up is a waste of time since the window is manky :) Same with the one I had fitted to my old Pug, but that one was damaged.

You can set your normal mirrors such a way that it will eliminate need of separate blind spot mirrors.

However, if the OP just relies on his mirrors and doesn't do a proper check, ie, turn and look directly whilst reversing and checking his blind spot, he will be failing his driving test.
