Post office/first direct lost my money

Options
This is really just to get it off my chest:

Paid in £120 at post office into First Direct account on the 16th June (hubby's birthday money). The money has never appeared in the account. I informed post office who told me to inform bank, who keep promising to call me back, never do, i sit on hold for 10 minutes for them to come back to me and say "Until the post office get back to us there is nothing we can do".

I was promised a call today and it's unlikely to happen now. I have been really pleasant about it up until now and i don't want to start getting difficult as First Direct have been super since we joined them in Feb. However this is our money and it's a bloody good job its payday on Wednesday!! :T

Did you get a receipt for the money? If so can't you call the banking ombuddsman and see what they reccommend?

Yeah i have the receipt (luckily) and First Direct have taken all details from the receipt. You would think that that is enough evidence and should just give us the money and then they can sort it out amongst themselves. First Direct asked me to go back to the post office and see if they know what is happening! Uh, not my job, i didn't lose it.

If i don't hear back tonight i am going to ask my husband to intervene - after all it is his money!

How did you manage to pay cash into a First Direct account at the Post Office, to the best of my knowledge the Post Office have no facility to do this with HSBC.

Have done it several times. The lady in the post office said i could. I was paying in cheques one day and mentioned that it was a pain that i couldn't pay cash in unless i drove 30 miles to a HSBC branch and she did it for me there and then. Never had a problem before.
  • The post office do this regular. I paid my first payment to CCCS through them as at that time i didn't know i could pay through Internet banking. 15 days later the money still hadn't turned up in CCCS account and i had to send proof of payment to them and also have the post office chase it up hence we missed the first months DMP and had to send 2 payment the following month. I would never use them to pay a bill again. I tried to debit some money out of my Nationwide account through the post office another time, my card is not chip and pin and should only be swiped the cashier asked me for my pin no. to enter into the system which i didn't do for obvious reasons and reported it to Nationwide. There was no reason at all why she should of asked for my pin number hence i don't use that post office at all now.

But I suspect they're "fudging" the system, which may account for the fact that they now can't sort out your problem. It's not just cash, according to them you shouldn't be able to pay in cheques to a First Direct account.

Thats what they told me, its not possible to get cash from them with a FD/HSBC debit card.

Well it worked fine the last few times, and the post office staff told me i could. I can't withdraw cash from a PO but that is what ATM's are for.

I can see that. First Direct have never had a problem with it and have never mentioned it is not possible.

I have had to phone them as i never recieved a call. I still have to wait for the PO to get back in touch. I have now decided that i can no longer be nice about this. £120 is a lot of money. No-one has apologised to me, we are skint and this is getting beyond a joke.
