    Hmm

I think I'll give 02 a call and see if I am able to change it.

I obviously havn't been sold this correctly because the man in the shop said I shouldn't go over 500mb.

    Gutted

It winds me up when they all say this. First everyone uses UNLIMITED INTERNET with a god dam *. 500MB is no where near unlimited and for many gives a false sence of security. They shouldnt be allowed to use the word UNLIMITED unless it means just that.

I am with 02 on simplicity, they told me the same crap, and i know that its easy to go over this ammount, all you need is a few large email attachments and heavy websites etc and it doesnt take much at all.

What i did ask though dispite the person i spoke to saying i wont... "what what if i do", and i was told all what would happen is they would warn me first and advice i move to a different package, but i was told they would never charge me for it, which was my ONLY consirn due to how much you could be charged looking at the MB prices and how easy it is to go over.

A blackberry is ment to be permently connected to its email account, the idea is you dont need to check if you have mail, as soon as you do, its delivered. And as i'm aware they have a special data package you pay for, to get this service. Why your being charged i dont know and think its unfair and would speak to someone about it. Maybe the guy who sold you it and said it would be more than enough huh???? and ask him to get his wallet out.

I have a blackberry and am a VERY HEAVY user on vodafone with the same 500mb fair usage policy. I have never gone anywhere near 500mb as it is nigh on impossible to go over 500mb on a Blackberry due to the compression of BIS (Blackberry Internet Service).

The first bill of a contract is ALWAYS for more than one month as line rental is paid in advance.

Id speak to O2 and ask them to double check everything was set up on the account as described.

I cant argee more with the use of unlimited, just state the amount plain and simple. - http://petitions.number10.gov.uk/Ban-Unlimited/

As to the contract, you'll have to go into the store and see if they allow it, there is no law that means you can send it back except maybe trade descriptions / sale of goods act if you were told the 500mb would be enough. Just speak to CPW instore is really your best bet.

I think that is a tad OTT.

Due to the size of the websites on the MOBILE internet 500mg is loads of data allowance.

BIS compresses the websites by another 70% so I dont understand how they are going over the data allowance. It shouldnt be possible.

Aye, i dont argue your BB shouldn't be over the allowance that quickly, as above it does compress alot of data as they are data heavy devices.

Talk to CPW first, they should be able to check if 02 have applied the right benefits to your account for data usage.
500mb can be exceeded though via http downloading, i.e. lots of MP3s and webpages. MSE i believe is about 500KB a page due to images.

But I go on MSE on my Blackberry.

On a laptop the page is 500mg a page but on a Blackberry Device you are on the mobile internet which is already heavily compressed already. Then with BIS its compressed up to another 70%

Mobile internet is a misnonmer for sites. There is no such thing really.

You get sites pitimied for mobile traffic that may have less intensive graphics but thats all, there is not a seperate mobile internet as such. It also depends if your device correctly loads a mobile version, it depends how it identifies it self to the site and how the sites writer has implimented agent handling on the web side.

In addition graphics are usually compressed, (ie most jpeg's are compressed as much as they can be) you can often compress them more (say by winzip) and get a bigger file size than you started. Text is easily compressed though.
It may be the blackberry servers re-sample the image to give a smaller size and smaller resoltion thats more suited to the screen but that depends if you go through a BB server, direct web surfing probably not.

Compression is also harly constant, some sites if they are text heavy may compress by 70% but if it's text lite and image heavy I'll bet there is very little compression on it.

Ive seen text compress very well, from 40MB down to 1.5MB :)

Anyways to the OP, no he shouldn't have any data charges yet. Just pop into CPW and ask them to check over your contract, to ensure all data packages have been applied correctly.

    Firstly, o2 internet is unlimited.

Blackberry is actually 200mb fair usage, however you don't get charged for going over. But, its bloody hard to use that much data on a Blackberry, I use mine every day for a good few hours, download music etc. and find it very very hard to even use the 200mb

More than likely you are using wap which some of the Blackberry apps use and you are charged for this, I've had it using a YouTube app. Log in online and you will see where the charges are coming from, rather than showing blackberry.net it will show mobile.o2.co.uk as the source.
