Trip to Australia - best airline to use?

Are you serious? OK.... but you'll be missing out.
As an aussie who's constantly flying to Oz, I'd say Emirates is probably the best experience in cattle class - although I've noticed they use smaller planes when flying into Gatwick - which aren't as good as the big jets that go into Heathrow. Singapore is definitely up there and have great service. In my opinion BA and Qantas really aren't worth it, but if you had to choose BA is better than Qantas.
My worst experience was with Austrian airlines - wouldn't really recommend them, but then it could've been a one off. Or Lufthansa which take you as far as Singapore - and by then you can't wait to get off the plane  .0 -
I a frequent flyer with Virgin so I used them last year to go to Australia. I love the airline so you won't hear me complaining about them. However, I really didn't like the routing through Hong Kong. Essentially you get two overnight flights which leave you feeling like crap by the time you get to Sydney.
The best route (and worst airline!) I have taken to Sydney were BA overnight to Tokyo then a daytime Qantas flight down to Sydney.0 -
Most Thai/Eastern airlines are just as safe as those in the Western world, with the exception of China Airlines; that said, if it reassures you to fly a Western airline, then I suppose your choices are limited to BA/Qantas and Virgin. I've flown with Virgin a few times, and find their economy class a bit more bearable than BA. Perhaps it's worth looking into Premium Economy or World Traveller Plus?
I'm going with Qantas in August. Flight leaves at midday, brief stop in Singapore, then onto Syd. About 25 hours in total I think. I'll try and post a report.'We shall not cease from exploration, and the end of all our exploring will be to arrive where we started and know the place for the first time. '
