Trip to Australia - best airline to use?

Hi, I am considering a trip to see friends in Brisbane next year with my mother (70) and daughter (3), which is the best airline to use, ie most comfortable, most leg room, best food, and which is the best/safest area for a stopover (was thinking Singapore?). Any advice greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Mmm, thanks for this, I'm wary of thai/asian airlines as I'm a very nervous flyer and worry about safety - anyone used Qantas ?

Bottom line is if you're in cattle class then you have to expect that you will have to endure a certain amount of space restriction for the duration of the flight.

You could find out the plane model and look up a seating plan and try and work out which rows, such as emergency exit rows, give more legroom.
However, if you're a nervous flyer, you might not want to sit in these seats...

BA and Quantas are far better than Singapore Airlines. Refreshments, snacks and entertainment ( i.e. films ) are all better. Try to plan your seating and avoid the galley area which in some planes disturbs a large number of seats. I travelled from Manchester to Singapore with S A in a seat that would not recline properly alongside the galley with its associated noise and clatter. S A also have a strange feeding policy. On my return from Singapore at 22.30 no one was offered food for four hours and then the lights were dimmed so that we could all sleep. The cabin staff wafted around, obviously hoping no-one would need them, in contrast to B A who regularly offered juices, hot drinks and edible snacks.

You obviously didn't use Seat Guru then?

Whoever you choose, sign up to their (usually) free frequent flyer club as that longhaul journey can earn you a possible free European flight.
  • I too would avoid BA, the staff were sooooo unaccommodating on board.

Australian Airlines were fab, friendly and good leg room and very accommodating (note, they aren't Quantas, that is a different airline)

I must have been in row 48C ( Version 2 ) but I didn't have access to the internet at the time to research and select. It's not always possible to select freely anyway, particularly if you've got a cheaper ticket.
