Xbox 360 HDMI / Component

Just bought a 1080p LCD TV and expected the picture quaility of my xbox to improve in comparison to my old 720p.

The twist though is my Xbox does not have an HDMI port and searching the internet gives conflicting answers to the question....

... does the component cable support 1080p?

The reason I ask is when playing call of duty, or even at the dashboard there is a shadow around all the text. Its like a really slight double vision. I just wondered what could be causing this.

The picture quality is excellent of course.. but I know that its meant to be crystal clear and this outline to the picture is not meant to be there!

Component cables do not support 1080p as far as I know. I think they only do up to 720.

  • As above, I don't think they do. Also the resolution of most of the game titles isn't 1080p, so they won't look totally perfect on a big full HD tv.

Call of duty 4 modern warfare 2 states 720p, 1080i and 1080p so I assume that means the game was created in 1080p.

Looks like i will have to swap my xbox for a newer one with an HDMI output!

    From xbox website http://www.xbox.com/en-US/hardware/x/xbox360componenthdcable/

So the component cable is 1080p?

But perhaps not as good as HDMI and hence the slight double vision effect to text.

Cod MW2 is perfect on my Widescreen HD tv:confused:. I use an HDMI cable :j

Component does support 1080p BUT it doesn't support HDCP and most tellys wont display at that resolution without it. or it assumes that component wont have 1080p content so just disable it anyway. A decent telly should support it but most wont.

1080p wont make any difference anyway as said before most games are made at 720p (or lower halo3 runs at 640p).

So it all depends wether the upscaling engine on your TV is better than the one on your xbox.

1080i actually... but for gaming your best off with 720P

It just happens I was looking at something at work that says component supports only up to 720, and wondering if that was right, since my TV has no hdmi input and still does 1080i. Hmm...might have to rethink that
