Ive said it before and ill say it again:
I've got to say last week I was quite hacked off at work. I live in the North West and we had quite a lot of snow for days.
I think on the one day the whole of my department was late for work due to snow. Well I made it work on time everyday via public transport. I even left the house an hour earlier than I normally would to ensure I got to work on time.
Its not if people did not know snow was on its way !!Im an ex employee RBS GroupHowever Any Opinion Given On MSE Is Strictly My Own0 -
You can't be disciplined for failing to come into work due to bad weather conditions (as long as you call them to let them know of course) so if it happens again tell him to stick to his guns.
But there may be reasons why the Employer feels someone is taking the pi55 with snow days..... did other people in the same area make it in ok? Does he/she have an extensive record of being absent on every day there has been weather problems? Does he/she have a poor attendance record anyway?
Fact remains that some people do take the pi55 when it comes to bad weather, so I can understand if some Employers get annoyed when people say it's impossible they can come in, especially if others make it in ok.
I'm not saying your brother is taking the pi55 just that if you look at it from the Employers side you can understand where they're coming from, but if he generally cannot make it into work then there's nothing he can do about it, he has nothing to worry about in regards to disciplinary action.0 -
Are you sure you're not confusing miles with kilometers?i walk 6 and half miles in an hour everday
I can normally walk to church in 15 minutes (just under a mile). This morning I slid down my path, found the pavement was impassable without a stick, slid back up my path to get my stick, slid back down again, and then took 5 minutes to get across the pavement to the gritted road on which I could actually walk.
Further along my route, some parts of the roads were slick with ice, slowing me down further.
It took me half an hour this morning.
But we've had public transport not running on certain routes round here! They've just stopped it!Ive said it before and ill say it again:

And the gritters have been out - I know, I live opposite the depot where they park the lorries!Signature removed for peace of mind0 -
Arriva buses wont run on ungritted roads - our village has all category 3 roads leading to it so no public transport for us for days. If the snow/ice lasts for more than 3 days they will eventually get round to us. We still have the stuff on our road (cul de sac) from before Christmas!Mags - who loves shopping0

:rotfl:Disregarding the ice and snow, which doubles the time it takes to walk anywhere, 3 miles per hour is the norm and tht is walking fast, not meandering.
There's no way, unless you take a few headfulls of speed before you set off, that you can walk 6 and a half miles per hour over ice and snow. If you can, I think there's a world record in it for you.0 -

He needs to file a grievance with the general manager, not the supervisor, stating the names of the person(s) who told him to come in and that it would be looked on poorly if he didn't. He needs to make sure that grievance is followed through.
Not neccersarily true, the company could put the employees up in a hotel etc and thus ensure their safety....I doubt they did though!Always ask ACAS0
