Quick Question regarding getting to work in snow.

Ok my brother was scheduled to work 10am to 10pm today. He was going to work and he phoned a taxi since he doesnt drive. It had snowed all last night and my area is quite bad so no taxi driver would come near here. He phoned 10 companies. So he phoned work to say he couldnt make it and they aren't accepting it and tell him to keep phoning. At 5pm he gets a taxi. At 10pm he finished work and again he cant a taxi so is stuck in the town he works in( about 7 miles from home)

I knew he shouldnt have went today as i know people in my family and neighbours with cars who are unable to get to work. I think they take the p-i-ss since he is a young guy. the same thing has happened a few times and were wondering what his options are next time it happens.

As long as he proves he tried to get in then I very much doubt they can discipline him. I would search on here for other snow threads because a company does not have to pay him if he can't make it into work due to snow

I doubt they would treat him any differant unless he is known to cause hassle, been off for prolonged periods of time etc

Well, I think that most employers will expect their employees to take a day's leave if they are unable to get into work because of the weather, so I would suggest he holds back some leave

its not the managers that treat him different. Its the supervisors etc which are old women who seem to think that old always equals wiser.

The thing is he works in a bingo hall and they are usually quite busy so get annoyed if someone cant get in. he doesnt take much days off so I would imagine he has plenty left. Im just wondering what his rights are if they try to make him work.

Hes not looking to be paid all he wants is to be able to take a day off when it isnt viable for him to get to work. I think thats quite reasonable. I think they waant him to don snow shoes and a balaclava and get there by any means.

Seven miles in an hour - he'd need jet propelled snow shoes!
