lcd or led

Wookey - I'm a bit confused too.
I didn't think plasma had refresh rates but I know LCD has pixels to switch on and off. When they're slow in switching on or off that's when you get the "blurring" or "shadowing" on lcd. Faster switching is called a faster response time. My pc monitor has a response time of 8ms if i remember correctly. Lower end lcd have slower response times (and increased shadowing) while higher end lcd units have faster response times (andless hadowing).
This is not a problem I've ever heard a plasma unit of having.
And what difference does frame rate make?
LCD shadowing is caused by fast movement across the screen eg football, not necessarily by fast frame rates. Football can be watched at 25fps on normal TV but can still show shadowing - I've seen it happen.
Both plasma and lcd have advantages over each other so you choose according to which suits your needs but i'd be grateful for further info on what you claim.

Why not go into Currys or Dixons or some other dealer and ask for a demo of both plasma and LCD TVs? You dont have to buy from them, but you will get an idea of the quality of both.
Unfortunately, every time I've been in either Currys or Dixons or Comet, the picture on every single TV has been abysmal, apart from the one that's running 'Finding Nemo' on BluRay.
How can I make an informed choice if their aerial signal is so poor that it makes the picture look rubbish? Have they never heard of GIGO? (Garbage In, Garbage Out) They're shooting themselves in the foot, because I've yet to see a Plasma/LCD/LED tv that has a picture approaching even 'barely acceptable', with one exception - the new Bravia 3 engined 5810 (IIRC) with Freesat, freeview and analogue. That one was on display in the Sony shop, and quite frankly it's been the only time I've not been completely disappointed and underwhelmed. I can't see what the fuss has been about for the last few years, my CRT picture is streets ahead of any of these allegedly superior technologies. I'll not be changing mine until the picture quality of live broadcasts is at a level I deem to be watchable. Especially at the prices that the big names seem to be priced at. You want £1999 for that with that shoddy picture? You're 'avin a laugh.0 -
Totally agree about currys and that putting shoody pictures through their booming hd tv collection..! seems totally mad.
I recently bought a new tv, ended up getting an LG 32LH3000 on sale at pc world for £329. I bought it solely for gaming on my xbox and it does have a lush gaming picture and tonnes of setting that can be adjusted, but if you're after one mainly for tele it might not be the best.
I took my n95 and dived on google once in the shop and checked out a few forums after i found the tv to make sure i was getting the best availible price and wasn't buying a lemon!
There is a lot of choice about and i'm sure you'll find a bargin in the january sales
good luck0 -
You are a long way off and wrong
Plasmas dont have 'screen burn' anymore. That was dealt with a while back.
You will get a better, clearer picture from a plasma unit.
LCD's have a cheap plastic screen, whereas Plasmas have glass fronts which can be easily cleaned aswell.
LCD's are cheaper though in general.
I genuinely didnt know that this was now the case, re: screen burn.
