Hi,

6th Jan 2010, I will see how generous o2 are with my upgrade possibilities.
If we can't strike a deal HOW do I leave them??

(a) Do I give a months notice that day ??? and get my PAC code and use it within the month? OR

(b) Get my PAC code a.s.a.p and will that end my contract once used ????

If I don't act I will have to pay £15 more a month from 5th Feb 2010 (Contract renewal date: 5th February 2010)

I am thinking about Asda p.a.y.g 4p text, 8p min if o2 no deal. I would rather stay with o2 as I have a bad credit rating and won't be able to get another pay monthly deal

  • I'd give notice that day then speak to O2 Retentions about an upgrade deal. They are apparently more generous than the O2 Upgrades team. You can ask for a PAC during that period if you don't get a decent deal. Do you need a new handset? Have you thought about a SIM only deal?

Hi there, you can cancel or renew your contract up to 30 days prior the end of your existing contract, so call them from 5 Jan.

If you prefer to stay with O2, when you call 202, choose the "thinking of leaving O2" option, then you should be put through to the retention team, if not ask to speak to that team, don't waste your breathe talking to the customer service, as the retention team is the only people who is able to offer your goodies, so I was told.

Just cut to the chase, tell the what exactly you want or you will leave O2. The retention team is usually able to match if not better your deal providing what you want is reasonable in the market. I know O2 is able to give £5, £10 or £15 off line rental depending on your history with them. I got £15 off a month with my 18 months contract and paid £100 for a rather expensive handset, and they top it up with unlimited text instead of 1000 or something. If you don't want a new handset, then just switch to one of the 1 month roll on contracts. which are pretty cheap anyway.

    Hope it helps.

Aug 2008 I cancelled after a bad upgrade offer (so they knew I was serious) then I took a deal (200 mins / 200 text, refurb Samsung Soul, £10 mth 18 mth) BUT they never removed the cancellation, my line went dead and I rec'd a huge bill !!!

I don't think you can transfer your number to an o2 sim only deal.

I have a Nokia 6300 which is ok.

I would rather pay £10 month
  • You can transfer your number to a SIM only - I just went from an iPhone tariff to a SIMplicity deal and kept my number.

Anybody know of any good £10 deals ???
  • 200 mins/unlimited texts on Virgin Mobile for £10 sim only is probably about the best.

Rang o2 today, after waiting 40 mins was told "ring back" tomorrow for loyalty deal. (earliest upgrade 6th Jan)

Tried online before and got same message (sometimes they have done a deal a few days earlier)

If you do a new deal, the new tariff actually starts a day or two after your call, though the contract notice dates aren't altered (so if for example you did an 18 month deal right now, it would last 19 months until August next year).

If you decide to leave, you still have to give 30 days notice. And if you want to use a PAC to transfer your number out, that code has a 30 day life, but transfer happens a couple of days after you apply, irrespective of your expiry date, so doing it a bit early leaves you with a paid but unusable notice period.

And note that if you get a PAC and then decide against using it after all, you don't automatically end your ties and will have to give new notice

I'm thinking of leaving at the moment, and what I might do is switch to the £10 Simplicity deal while the notice runs down. For you, with the use you seem to imply, and not necessarily a new phone, the £10 or £15 Simplicity deals might be worthwhile. The attractive retention offers they used to have a few months ago, £15 discounts and so on, now seem to be ancient history. There's a long O2 Retentions thread somewhere here which you might check for recent examples

The contract starts when you sign for the phone or sim card, not when you call to confirm.
    Kind Regards

I say again, if you do a new deal, the new tariff actually starts a day or two after your call.

A SIM only retentions deal doesn't necessarily involve any delivery or signature. When I did a retentions deal with a new phone, that arrived the next day and no new SIM was included.
