Lots of good advice about how to do it on here but can I just say that my DD did this with pork a couple of years ago for a special birthday lunch for me, and by the time she came to serve it she felt completely sick as she'd woken up all night long wondering what the smell was (lovely tho it is it might not be what you'd want to rock you to sleep ! ) so I suggest you keep kitchen door firmly shut, and maybe have a nice smelly candle in your bedroom ? We thought it smelt (and tasted) absolutely delicious but she had so gone off it by the time she served it ! Such a shame as we loved it !

Quickly, just to let everyone know that it did turn out wonderfully! :T
It was boneless (thought it was bone in, but in white butcher paper and never looked!) just a tad bit on the dry side but I'm sure that's only because it ended up cooking about 2 hours more than I had planned :D - and did it at Gas mark 1- next time, 1/2.

I wouldn't do it all the time, but would certainly do it again!

Hi Guys, doing aleg of pork but the instructions dont seem right to me??

Think it is too high for the first hour. Only a 1kg joint for myself ( not all for today :D )

as I remember it normally about gas mark 6 for 30 mins per 500g plus 30 mins.

There is crackling scored on the top

    Thoughts?

I would do precisely what the instructions are telling you to do: one hour in a hot oven and then another 30-odd mins on the lower temp.

Thanks B&T seemed a bit too much on a high heat for 65 Mins, was concerned it was a typo and the 9 was supposed to be a 6?, Here goes.

    Hi

I would cook as per instructions but definitely check after the first hour - I do agree with you about the temp being rather high - I assume you're not cooking the joint from frozen? It's either defrosted or fresh? If the juices run clear the meat will be cooked if not it will need cooking for longer. I never cook meat on that higher temp for that long - only ever start the turkey at xmas off at 200c for half hour then turn temp down for the remaining cooking time. HTH if I'm not too late to help.
