I suspect that Stanstead charge the taxis to use the rank outside the airport, whilst the hotel don't. So the £18 is covering that cost plus not having to wait for a taxi to arrive0 -

If everyone did as you did, the rip-off taxi companies would be forced to drop their extortionate fares."You were only supposed to blow the bl**dy doors off!!"0 -

I was surprised to see that Stansted charge you to pick up passengers from the arrivals area. Don't charge you for dropping them off (yet?).0

If you can afford to run a car and take a flight during the holiday season it's not that you couldn't afford it, so you should have factored in the taxi-cost. As far as I'm aware, public transport still runs on New Years Day, so you did have a choice. You could even have chosen not to leave your car parked while you were away and made your way to and from the airport by public transport. Sorry, I've no sympathy for you at all.
you have missed the point completely , its my choice how i travel , taxi bus walk whatever ,
flights cost £1.00 each , lol
i could have got 38 flights for the same cost as the stansted (note the correct spelling) taxi
by the way i dont want your sympathy as i actually only paid £18.00 plus tip for the taxi i did use , why can the 'approved' taxi firm charge £20.00 more for the same journey?
the point is that baa stansted have done a deal with one firm to the exclusion of all others , there is no choice but to use the only taxi firm in the airport , i asked at the information desk if there was any other taxi firm i could use , and was told there wasnt
as was said earlier they already have a captive customer base so why rip them off aswell?my favourite food is spare ribs0 -

Why is there a monopoly on car parking at Stansted?
My firm booked me Purple Parking's meet & greet service at Stansted, which is off site as the on site car parking is a [STRIKE]stitch up[/STRIKE] monopoly. When I got my car back, it had done 70 miles! I asked them if their off site parking was at Heathrow by any chance. :mad:0 -
The reason for the overpricing at some airports is due to the fact that where a monoply is involved the airport insists that the taxi rank is overpopulated and customers do not have to wait.
I used to drive at Southampton airport a few years ago where we had just three busy periods a day but all the cabs had to stay there during the quiet periods. We could sit there for two hours and then get an £11 fare into Southampton and then return for another two hour rest. So fares had to be higher at the airport or quite simply there wouldn't have been any drivers willing to work there. At that time new years day was the only day of the year when double prices were allowed. It's someone else's fault.0 -
