Hi there

I am sorry to keep harping on about the kitchen - as some of you will know I an just about to have mine refitted and am really grateful to the advice I have had on here.

So, sorry folks, I'm back for more....

Might it be possible to fit BQ sink and taps and worktops, to Ikea doors and cabinets? Or is that a complete no no no.

It would be really great if you could let me know

ALSO - hubby has just said that he thinks a 1.5 bowl sink is a "waste of time space and money" - this is utter c**p, and yes he does on occasion cook and prepare vegetables. I really do need to combat this one....

Can you help me out anyone?

Many thanks again
Anne

Happy new year and many thanks

Anne

We have IKEA kitchen and worktops but sink and all appliances were bought elsewhere and we've had no problems.

re the 1.5 bowl - tell your OH to go ask an estate agent what buyers prefer, that should get the answer you want.

Ah yes re the 1.5 bowl! I absoloutely hate them and agree with hubby that they are a complete waste of time, I'd far rather have that extra space on the original bowl so I can fit baking trays and grill pans in the sink etc! I also think most sinks are awful too though for the same reason. Give me a lovely big sink any day but then I am a keen cook with saucepans that don't go in a dishwasher and I'm fussy about putting bowls from my kitchenaid mixer in there aswell because I like to keep it looking all shiny so for me a big sink is a must!

The Ikea units are very slightly deeper than british ones, so you would be better with the Ikea worktop as it is slightly deeper too. Otherwise you might find your door handles stick out too much, depends on their style. You could fit the B&Q top slightly away from the wall if the gap would be covered by tiles or something.

Sinks etc.....do you not like the Ikea ones? I like the way they have no tapholes so are easily reversed. You drill the taphole where you want it. I don't like the ones with 2 holes where one is blanked off.

For a quality sink and taps I would choose Franke or similar, or the more expensive Ikea ones if you are on a tight budget. Or at least a proper "handed" sink with only the taphole you need, and a branded tap.

Definitely go for AT LEAST 1 1/2 sinks. You could fit a waste disposal unit in the 1/2 sink, very useful. You can get them from around £70.

It doesnt always come down to money though, although point well made, it would not influence my OH. Thanks though xx

This has got me thinking again - I agree about the big sink for washing grill pans and large oven trays etc - but I just suspend them over the top of the larger of our (current) 1.5 bowl arrangement and it seems fine. I need a high tap for the same purpose - in order to fit things into the sink.

You've certainly got me thinking again becs. Thanks for the pics of your kitchen btw, it is lovely, and so shiny - what is your floor?

What sort of sink did you pick? I didnt see it in your picture unfortunately.

    Thanks for your help

Thanks aah. The floor is bamboo and we have it throughout downstairs. Dh wanted carpet but I won that one! Fortunately he spills more than enough on the floor for me to prove I was right!
The sink is a franke one and came with a stainless steel drainer that sits over the sink which I use for cutlery when washing that, other than that I store it in the cupboard below. I absoloutely love my sink though and would definately buy again, The pleasure of being able to put large items in a sink full of water to wash up rather than the juggling act ( I know what you mean as mum has 1.5 bowl sink but her tap is a nightmare so end up spraying the entire kitchen! ) is great. Easily pleased you see! The kitchen was cheap but we did spend a reasonable amount on appliances etc.

I'm just getting my kitchen done too. I've just ordered myself a sink from Plumbworld, looks nice to me, but I don't know what other people think. http://www.plumbworld.co.uk/franke-leman-lmx651-15-bowl-1996-20455 I'm trying to decide on cookers. I'm getting a homebase kitchen, but the only unit for built under cookers says single, not double and I want a double cooker.

Curliwurli be prepared for lots of cleaning with stainless steel! I had it at my last house and was constantly wiping up drips on it everytime I walked past it because I always wanted it looking lovely and shiny! Have to say this is where an e cloth really comes into it's own!

that is a lovely sink becs. I like ceramic and its easy to clean - but I don't want a huge belfast sink. There are some great ones on that website though - I could get a 1.5 bowl franke ceramic sink for just over £300 - I was gonna pay £200 plus for the bq one anyway.

Sink I have atm is grey asterite - i.5 bowls - gets dirty dirty really easily.

Thanks for all your help guys
