Cheap London!

My boyfriend & I are off to London at the weekend, haven't booked somewhere to stay yet, we only want to stay Saturday night, where is the cheapest (but still resonable) place to stay, we were thinking of a Travelodge, we want it as close to the city centre as poss.
Also, can you buy a daily tube ticket instead of lots of separate ones? Is there anything cheap that we really must do while we are there?
Thanks,
Sarah x

Hi There,
Travelodges and travel Inns tend to be as expensive if not more so than the hotels in London. saturday night in Travelodge Covent Garden or Travel Inn County hall( beside the eye) will cost you £95.
Check https://www.laterooms.com. You may get a good hotel like the Grange at Holborn but again expect to pay about £85.
Citadines have aparthotels( they have a kitchen) in Holborn and Trafalger square.
A travelcard on the tube for the whole day and buses is £6.30.
The best attraction I can think of is the London eye and cruise check https://www.lastminute.com.
There is also a 2 for 1 London website with offers run by the rail companies.
There are stacks of free things you can do too!

im going then as got some cheap train tickets...and using the free kew gardens print offs (look on days out thread) weather pending....else the natural and history museum....
if you go to buyagift.com you can get a guided tour on the london eye for £15 each or if your search hard enough you can find £5 discount code for them. buy each ticket separately and add some chessington park tickets to the order as it gives free delivery then delete it again) you should then get it for £10 each.
what about days inn at waterloo incl breakfast for £59.66 per room per night incl breakfast heres the link http://www.all-hotels.com/xbook/servlet/DisplayRates?partner=8&hotl_id=301534&txtArrivalDate1=01-Jul-2006&locationID=27187&hotel_name=days&txtLocation=Waterloo%20/%20London%20Bridge&lastLocation=Waterloo%20/%20London%20Bridge&cboArrivalMonths=Jul-2006&cboArrivalDays=01&cboNights=01&number_of_adults1=2&number_of_children1=0&number_of_beds1=10 -
Buy an Oyster card when you get to London, cost £3 deposit which you will get back when you return the card at the end of your trip. Single tube journeys are £1.50, half price of a standard journey. The card will have a price capping so your travelcard will be 50p less than the standard journeys.

And if you're not fussy about which hotel you get but the price you pay, https://www.priceline.com, has name your own price. You pick the area and the price you want so go as low as you dare. I got Thistle Victoria (right next to the station) for £40 a night on a weekend.0 -
There's a travelodge quite close to Clapham Junction (about 5 mins walk away) which is usually a damn sight cheaper than the ones in central London, and if you get a travelcard you can get the bus from outside the hotel to the railway station or anywhere you like. The free things we liked doing were the natural history/science/british museums, but we took the kids... even so, they're still lovely buildings to walk around.
Try this site, too, for ideas: http://www.londontourist.org/free.htmlBefore you criticise a man, walk a mile in his shoes. Then, when you do criticise him, you're a mile away and you have his shoes.0 -
Hey, thanks for those both of you, some great tips there.
