Altea? pah! made out of surplus VW parts that despite the myth of quality were not that good to start with (where do VW come on any reliability tables?) and the ride and noise will make the baby throw up, Ask yourself how many of those mingers do you see on the road? yes for good reason. Go with the hugely popular Qashqai, better engineered, better looking.. but why only 1.5 and not the 2.0?

Whilst I'd go with the Qashqai over the Altea, making cars out of surplus VW parts did Skoda no harm since they seem to be the mainstream maker at the top of most reliability tables! The quality is in there somewhere!

Agreed, it does seem somewhat ironic that Skoda, once the butt of jokes, now makes the most reliable cars coming from the VAG stable.

It seems, the less you pay VAG, the better the car you get.:)

I'd recommend the 2 litre if you can afford it.

Lots of people think the 2.0 will be a vast difference over the smaller engines, but its not as pronounced as you might think!

My wife and I bought the 1.5dci Acenta back in August, and its an awesome car frankly. Having test driven both the 1.5 dci and the 2.0l, yes the 2.0l has a bit more torque, but its not a massive difference. The 1.5dci is a wonderfully capable engine, I have to say - a suprising amount of pull when it needs to, so you can happily overtake without feeling like you won't make it, it feels deceptively quick (only around 12 seconds 0-60, but feels quicker) and crusing on the motorway in 6th at 90 is a breeze. Sorry I meant 70 of course :rotfl:

The 1.5 is cheaper than the 2.0, its slightly more economical, and the pure drive system means 140g CO2 I think so its only £120 a year tax. A normal tank load in ours costs around £65 these days, and normal driving (ie mixture of town and long distance) returns around 600 miles. On a long drive it returns more like 650-700 mpg which is great.

Touch wood, built quality has been fantastic - its very well out together and feels top quality, the Acenta has a decent amount of kit for the price. The only thing thats gone wrong with ours is the CD player ate some CDs and died, but it was all resolved within the week by Nissan, who have been pretty helpful thus far.

SO I can heartily reccomend a Qashqai, and its worth testing the 2.0 and the 1.5 to see if the difference is really worth it.
