Seat Altea XL or Nissan Qashqai

Can't help too much other than my BiL has a seat toledo, had it for about 31/2 years now and still loves it, very economical and reliable (till this morning, flat battery), but as it's on its original battery it's not done too bad. It's very nippy as well for a diesel, but they have the audi/vw running gear whereas the Nissan may have Renault (which if it does, I wouldn't touch it with a bargepole).
Oh and BiL's Seat is a Sept 03 model, so it's definitely been worth every penny as there is not a mark on the bodywork and is a very solid car.

Can I suggest you also have a look at the Skoda Yeti.
Stupid name but came 4th in European car of the year this year and similar size to these two.
Have driven all three and the yeti is definately the best drive.
May be a little more expensive but stronger residuals should balance that out.
Only other comments I can make is I found the 1.5 tdci Quashqai underpowered when I drove it. Not by much but it was just me - imagine it with 4 people in.0 -
New baby, you need to get serious about your choice of car. We have gone for a Ford Puma, its excellent big boot takes a buggy, and very nippy.
We did think an MX5 and a baby was a bit of a push.
Its a baby human not a baby elephant how much space does it's take up?0 -

Would also have a think about the Estate v MPV choices.
Appreciate your two are MPV's but when my Mrs had her C-Max and I had a Focus Estate we always took the estate as it got more in (a lot more in) and was more comfortable as well on longer journeys.
Also have a look at the actual space inside the MPV's (not the literage the brochure tells you as a lot of that is dead space you cant use.
Try leaving a £400 buggy in the boot when the tonneu cover doesnt fit over it. You wouldnt do it with a laptop - buggys are just a sellable (a phil and teds wheel (one wheel) will sell for £30 on ebay.
Ford Kuga is a great example - looks big on the outside - hardly any room on the inside.
Basically what I am saying is smaller MPVs arent all they are cut out to be when it comes to shifting kids about. Another thing people never look at is the pitch of the back seats.
On MPVs they are slightly higher and more vertical than in a car. Great for passengers (as legroom better) but when you put car seats inside very very tight on space.
Take your buggy and car seat with you - load them up in all your choices in the showroom.
To big a purchase to make a mistake with.0 -
My dad has a 57 Plate 1.5 dCi Qashqai with 63k on the clock, and he seems pretty pleased with it- tis a company car but doing the miles he does, it certainly doesn't seem that short of power - no different to my 1.6 Focus.0

My Qashqai Acenta is 2 months old. Love it and would recommend it to anyone. Only thing I'm not keen on is that we could only afford the 1.5 petrol and it shows with the large amount of motorway driving we do, mostly town I don't think you'd notice tbh). I'd recommend the 2 litre if you can afford it.
Regarding room, there is loads. Take a test drive in one if you can.Illegitimi non carborundum.0 -
Saw an Altea XL today and thought !!!!!! is that?! Hideous thing...! But probably quite roomy. But low resale value like the standard Altea/Golf Plus lump.0

Agree with Harvey (as usual, we must be in cahoots...). The Seat is a good car having just undergone a facelift. The 1.9 lump is VERY noisy though and resale values poor. On the plus side it's VW quality at a great price but with loads more toys! The cashcow is a good car, the 1.5DCi is a Renault engine and is very, very good. Just about to have a facelift therefore pre facelift models will be offered very cheaply. Alex.'Just because its on the internet don't believe it 100%'. Abraham Lincoln.
