If you want some basic psychology of why people are spendaholics read "Games people play" by Eric Berne. It is a bit old, my copy was 65p new!
Like alcoholism, people are only "cured" if they want to be cured and it is a lifelong problem which has to be faced and overcome every day.
Congratulations on your progress so far.0 -

That's sooo true. I can't believe how addicted I have become to paying off my CC.
And Suzy, if you really are anything like Miss X, you will already have tons of pairs of shoes (and clothes of other descriptions) which have not been worn or only worn once. Work that wardrobe, girlfriend!
Are you sure we have never met ??? :rotfl:

It was hard, and that is just from my perspective, watching her drool at shop windows (while i drooled at the computer shop windows:p)
It takes a while, in fact three years in our case, she saved, went out, and bought a pair of boots with her christmas/birthday money.
Made them more spaicial, being bought and paid for, her words not mine.
Though she has sulked since, thanks to the snow she cant wear them
There is some ironic message in there, somewhere
Depends how you read it to which message you get

Every little bit of help and encouragement is heart warming to me -truly-with the advice and kind words I am gleaning from this forum I may well beat this terrible affliction
I don't want to overstate but I have been making myself ill with all the worry mainly about having to ask my parents for help again!! I feel such a failure Now I feel like I have a tiny glimmer of hope.

Hi suzzybabe, just spotted your thread, you have come so far in a matter of days, imagine what you could do in few months.
Shoes are my thing too - I'm guessing you have tonnes of them, if you want a new pair sell some of your old ones until you have enough to buy them - soon your mindset will change and you will want to pay it off a debt but at least for now you wont be increasing it.
