Epilators - a few questions

            hiya
like you, I was very unsure about these, but about 18 months ago I bought one, and I love it!
Mine is a red philips one, bought from argos ona hlaf price deal, i only use it on my legs, as my skin is extremely sensitive. after use, which isn't painful once you get going, I get a horrendous itch/tingle and a rash for several hours, but then i get tha with anything other than a basic wet shave...as i said, very sensitive!
as far as my bikini line goes, I have yet to find the answer, and as an embarrasingly hairy woman, this is the bane of my life....I don;t swim as i can't maintain a hairless look. if i wax I get loads of ingrown hairs, I've tried exfoliation, potions creams etc, to no avail. It's a nightmare.
But i do love my epilator for legs, and am considering trying my underarm hair.
Legs take me about 20 minutes for a full forest!!!!!:rotfl:

Thanks for all the posts, you've inspired me to dig mine out again!
chocomonsta you mentioned that you'd used it on your upper lip. Anyone else done this, and any tips? Was it a special attachment or just the usual thing? I've hit the age where my upper lip is getting hairier and scarier, and I've gotta move fast before it takes over!! 0 0

I have a braun silk epil and use it on my legs and underarms.
It is painful at first, a kind of stinging I found. But it gets better and the hair is sparser the more you use it. I find that the best way to get smooth legs is to leave it to grown back inbetween epilating, as when I do it regularly because some of the hairs are too short it can be a bit stubbly, but in warmer months that isn't so practical.
My hair is generally a lot finer now, and I can do my legs in about 15 mins and my underarms in less than 5.Current debt: M&S £0(£2K) , Tesco £0 (£1.5K), Car loan 6K (paid off!) Barclaycard £1.5K (interest free for 18 months)0

I get on far better with mine than I thought I would & I have a very low pain threshold. It hurts at 1st but like others have said it dies down after a wee minute, Was surprised that I was able to do my armpit's no bother at all, I thought that would kill me. I do it after a warm shower when my pores are open. Also do use a scrub on your leg's in between sessions or you can get ingrowing hairs. I like it best as I don't get madly itchy legs like I do when I shave.Booo!!!0

I have a attachement on mine for face and i tried it once and never again, there were too many tiny hairs and the pain for me was bad, i also got the dreaded spot rash which i get from waxing for about a week after.
I might try those abrasion buffer things as my lip needs doing, just so sensitive for me 0 0

I had one and just couldn't get on with it.
The most painful parts were my knees and just above. The ingrowing hairs weren't too pleasant either and my legs would itch like !!!!!!y! It would take me forever to do it as well.
The only upside for me were hair free legs that would last at least a couple of weeks. However, the con's outweighed the pro's and as a result I am back to using my trusted razor.0

Hi, yes I use it just as it is on my upper lip with no special attachment.
I have a lot of fine hair on my upper lip which is soft not spikey  I only use it rarely and it is not very uncomfortable to do, alot easier than waxing.
For those struggling with the pain, shave your legs first and use on short hairs. I find it hardly hurts at all if I use it on short/new hairs0

Thanks chocomonsta, I had a v quick go on my upper lip this morning - ouch! But my underarms were much better this time, don;'t know why. So I'll persevere on the 'tache, see if I can get the knack!!0

I was really lucky and a lovely MSEr gave me hers! I find it great on my legs (but never found waxing them painful); a bit more painful on my bikini (but less than waxing) but can't get the hang of underarms - hurts too much but so did waxing.
Upper lip - I use bleach and tweezers. The birds of sadness may fly overhead but don't let them nest in your hair0

Thanks for everyone's replies. I'm tempted to try one as I'm getting fed up of shaving, I used to get my legs waxed but stopped to save money. I went on Amazon and saw one that sounded good, it was reduced from £75 to £28 and had great reviews, was going to get it but then I started dithering and the next day it had gone up to £48:(0
