heating a cellar

well we still havent done anything about sorting the toyroom out, its still full of junk, still not done the ceiling or sorted the radiator! So im going to clean it out today and have a good sort out and take the excess toys and clutter to the hospice I work for the charity shop!
so wish me luck, i cant see us having the spare cash to do much, so im going to tart it up, stick a rug in there and see what leftover paint we have to give it a quick lick over to freshen it up, is white and blue and the moment so i may just paint over the blue to see if it helps. and lurk on freecycle too, there was a large old fashioned desk but im going to swap that for table and chiars so the kids can do homework etc on it, craft table and i can use it to do jewllery , and it opens up to play table tennis.
The plan is to have it like a den with the old tv, the wii and such like but as usual its crammed with junk! so its more life a craftroom than anything,
ANyone else have ideas? I should take some photos for you to suggest, ill sort it later x:A :j0 -

I'd go with globalds. You will not get much improvement in heat retention if you just use foil backed plaster board. You state that the cellar is large. If it were me I would be battening the walls and getting some serious depth of insulation onto the walls and the ceiling, before making any decisions about heating the space. Ignoring any safety implications, Calor gas is a very expensive way of heating any room, don't go down that path.I can afford anything that I want.
Just so long as I don't want much.0 -
thanks all, the calor gas option went out of the window!!! and now l we have bitten the bullet, having cavity wall insulation quote next week, insulation being sorted for on the ceiling , we are battening the ceiling with 2 x 1 and using insulation boards and then using thermal insulation boards recommended, and arranged to have radiator fitted and system checked and drained, posibility is that the radiator in there isnt big enough for the room, weve started already, ive ditched tons of things to the charity shop, so im making a start, if anyone else has ideas wht we can do much appreciated x:A :j0
