heating a cellar

Hi, im lucky enough to have a cellar type room coming off the house under the garage, but, its a nightmare to heat, id like to use it for a a playroom/craftroom but although it has a double radiator and has been adapted for use ie plastered, insulated and we laminated and put insulation under the laminate its still freezing.

Ive bought a convector heater but am scared to use it because the fuel bills are high enough as it is,
has anyone got any ideas??
Ive heard that calor gas causes condensation and dont want to ruin the walls with damp. but the calor gas fire would be portable, immediate and separate from the utility bills??? but how safe would it be??? as enclosed space and not much ventilation.

You dont want to be using calor gas in a cellar.

Correct me if I am wrong but I would of thought its pretty much lethal.

I think you are going to have to look into insulating the walls and floor before you try heating it.

the walls are insulated, and under the laminate is that silver insulating stuff, i think its so cold because of it being under floor level.
How much is it for fitting new radiator, and not sure that my boiler would carry another raditor, but i could ring and ask for quotes.
I havent got the calor heater i just wondered if it was an option.

The ceiling is pretty low already, and cant afford to insulate the garage at the moment, or indeed for a good few years, the houses are a unique shape as the door going under the stairs leads off to the room, very harry potterish!!!

so its a nightmare keeping the house warm, but im going to get my act together this year and sort it.

I've rung my husbands uncle and hes going to see if the boiler will carry another radiator, and hes popping in later xxxx
Ive an insulated curtain so im sticking that up as you go into the room, im going to put foil around cardboard and stick that behind the exsisting radiotor too so they may help?

I asked about the btu and he said it would be ok, and recommended that we hack back the awful artex down there, on the ceiling as its thick spiky and awful, he said to then use foil backed plaster boards, skim them and that wil help retain the heat, so hubby is going to price up radiators and we will go from there, ta. x

Air source heat pump maybe, there are a few cheap ones on B&Q website, search for airforce.
