Orange mobile, no signal when we moved, 10 months contract left

My boyfriend is on orange and has been for several years. He has 10 months left on his contract but has recently moved and gets no signal where he is at the moment. Orange said there is nothing he can do and that he cannot stop his contract? surely if he is not getting a service he should not have to continue with this contract?

Does anyone know if anything can be done?

    NO SIGNAL? I didnt think it was possible to actually get NO signal at all. where abouts are you located in the UK? I just switched to orange but i havent checked anything as far as coverage..

    Just a thought, orange didnt do a coverage check with me when i took my contract out (yday), so im assuming they didnt do that with you either.. so you should be able to complain. That said, maybe they do actually do a coverage check and only tell you if you're not in a covered area.. and i assume you were in an area with good coverage when you took the plan out initially..

    They will say, you moved, it was your decision and nothing to do with them.

    This has been covered a few times on here, if you have no coverage when you take out the contract they'll cancel, if you decide to move where there's no signal its not the networks fault and you can still use your phone when you're out.

    Get a GSM booster, they are on ebay for £100, had this with o2 phone at work.

    Do they check for signal coverage of just take your word for it. In other words, if you took a contract out and a few days later your found a better deal (and the phone arrived), could you use the 'no signal' excuse to get out, or do they do checks?

    Hopefully more phones will eventually have UMA support so that people who live in GSM "dead spots" can still have the signal piped over wifi instead. My Blackberry 8900 has UMA support and when I visit my mum's house I can get normal mobile reception via UMA even though she has zero mobile signal in her house.

    I also assume they would send someone out to check rather than just rely on the coverage checker.

    As to the OP, im in agreement with Jon 01, its been covered before. Choosing to move is the decision of the contract holder, it is a change in circumstances that is not caused by the network and as such they cannot be held liable. There is no way he will be able to get out of the contract. You could always discuss with orange with they will accept a lower settlement figure but i doubt it.

    In extreme circumstances they'd send a field engineer out to check the signal but most of the time they don't need to do that, they know the radius that the masts cover, they know who is connecting to the masts and what distance they are connecting from, they have detailed maps showing coverage in 2g and 3g, if you phoned up saying you don't have a signal when you do it'd be very easy to prove.

    Orange have no control over you moving house unfortunately, they can't provide a signal to 100% of the country, they're still providing you with a service, it's just that you can't use it where you live
